He had his chance.Would rather leave the slot he would occupy ,open for a kid that hasnt had his yet

Sure, but that could be the same as not looking into UFA's because you want to give the kids a chance, I know I reached a bit but if you get my point, if we can be better offensively then we should look at all avenues in general.
I just thought that it's an interesting point on a former player who seems to be breaking out. Radulov, Zaitsev, Panarin are all late signing Russians finding success and now with Vegas signing "the russian crosby" who is producing at the same rate as Kovalchuk, it might be a good idea to take stock of opportunities over there and if we have someone who is in the system who is showing promise why not take a look regardless of history, Hoffman took a long time as well and look at him now!

On topic: those are some respectable point totals for Filatov, but I really doubt he would fit Boucher's system. Boucher demands a dedication to defence and backchecking from all his players. We've seen Ryan struggle to make the transition. Although who would have thought Hoffman would be so successful under a defence-oriented philosophy?

I remember Filatov was actually not as bad as advertised defensively, but can't remember what his backchecking/commitment to system was like (if we even had a system).

In a vacuum he might make a good second line player, but unless he can bring truly elite level offence I don't know how well he would fare with Boucher.

Oh for sure, and thank you for bringing this to the board's attention. It's an interesting idea anyway.

This guy will forever be, "The girl that got away" for Sens fans. Let Vegas take him - what's the worst that can happen with all those casinos nearby for him? ;-)

That's fair and seems to ring true, but i'm just not a fan of the "no russians" mentality that seems to float around some Nhl tables.

Sure we'll trade his NHL right to Vegas on the condition that they pick Wideman or Boro in the expansion draft.

I have not read a single post...let me guess the reason for the bump...its either

a) his season is done, can he come over and join the black aces squad?

b) do we still have his rights and is he coming to camp next fall?

I will now scroll back and see.

Half related but I'd pay big money for a Stephan Da Costa Vegas Golden Knights jersey.

I'm actually pissed this guy didn't get a good crack here. For the games he played I always thought he looked good. But they stuck him on the 4th line for like 4 minutes a night. Now with our player development specialist in Alfie I think it's possible his personal problems/Filly don't do rebounds could've been addressed.

Always thought he could have been more than what he was. Seems like he's probably not going to be in the NHL anytime soon.

Nope. He had his opportunity, and blew it. Now after a few middling KHL seasons, he's JAG - just another guy. He's not on the Russian roster at the Worlds, which should tell you a lot given that it is about half KHL guys.

My casino comment above was in reference to the fact that Filly apparently liked his gambling when he was in North America. IIRC, he admitted as much in an interview.

I can't believe we are having this discussion again.

Prince - Da Costa - Filatov

We don't even need anyone else. We will win the next ten cups.

The "All-Salt" starting lineup for your Ottawa Senators!

Zibby would've been in that lineup, except he didn't care and was DJing instead. Puempel just smiled and disappeared.

I'm all for it. I liked him.

Yeah he was far from a cherry picker when he was with us. I remember him actually having a go at people in the corners. But he got bounced around heavily on the lines and we were a mess to start that year. Didn't we lose multiple games by 7 within the first 14-15 games of the season

The last thing this team needs is a soft perimeter figure skater, did no one watch these playoffs & how hard the hitting was? Ottawa needs bigger tougher players with skill.

Obviously didn’t work out but I loved this trade and would be thrilled with Dorion trying for similar players. The Duclair trade is a decent of example of what can happen when it works out.

He really bounced around a lot in the KHL.

I saw him play in 2017 with Lada
