For the season in progress (and games through March 16), the average number of goals for the winning team has been 3.60, and the average number of goals for the losing team has been 1.69.

I removed shootout "goals" from the results.

Here's a distribution by game:

GOALS | Winning Team | Losing Team
0|0|128
1|61|365
2|174|326
3|268|173
4|286|47
5|166|11
6|71|0
7|22|0
8|1|0
9|1|0

I didn't check this rigorously, and there are potentially errors in the source (my hand-typed numbers). I'm happy with the accuracy in a broad sense (since even a perfectly accurate result will move somewhat for the rest of the year) - if anyone sees specifics that look off, please let me know.
