Seattle went with Palm Springs since there is a direct flight from there and Everett's airport.

Western expansion in the A has made it possible for NhL teams to have their AHL club close by.

If it’s not close by for travel reasons for the AHL club as you don’t want them isolated from their divisional opponents then the next best option is a city that has a direct flight from the A to NHL city.

A lot of that will be physical plant costs being shifted from the primary tenant (Spurs) to the secondary tenant(Rampage) even as both teams are owned by the same parent company. Accounting losses.

ADD in the expansion fees that Colorado paid to get the Eagles to be upgraded and how Seattle landed Palm Springs because the league simply doesn't add franchises unless warranted

Reno's political situation around their arena has makes hockey there a non-starter, and nowhere else in the state is hosting minor pro hockey really possible. VGK were confirmed to have talked to Fresno a while ago, but nothing was worked out.

bought the license and the franchise, usually it's simply a license of transfer to operate.....

The NHL lost out on good, dedicated hockey markets like Québec City and Winnipeg (though they eventually made up for it) because they had a goal in mind and Bettman and the BOG do what they think is best for the league. They clearly have a plan in mind, and they've slowly been going about completing it, for better or for worse.

AHL BOG is made up by majority of NHL owners. They want 1 AHL team per NHL team.
