54 million is easy to hit. They draft 30 guys, 20 for the roster who make around 2mil like a Namestnikov, 10 guys for the AHL team and then sign 4 free agents at 4mil a pop and you're at 54. No need to take Garrison for free especially with the other LD they'll get to pick from around the league.

Yzerman pretty much said Kristers is done here, without actually saying it. Says he wants to go with Ingram and a vet (McKenna) next year.

Avs fan coming in peace. I really envy that you guys have Yzerman as your GM. He is brilliant.

I'd rather keep Killer and leave Names exposed. Names just did not figure it out and this was his year to show that he can play on at least the 3rd line. He's 4th line at best, IMHO, and that would have to be a non-checking line.

How many 4th liners score 35 points? Namestnikov is a 35 point 3C. Rather have the 35 point 3C at 2mil than the 40 point 3rd line winger at 4.5.

Not really surprised. He hasn't even been able to lock down a #1 spot in Syracuse and he's been there for years.

We need him for expansion purposes so he'll have to get qualified. The only other goalie that meets requirements is Vasilevskiy unless we resign Budaj soon which I can see for like 1mil soon.

So after TyJo, Palat and Drouin extensions how much will we have left over to improve the roster?

Roughly 5-6M to sign Dotchin, Sustr, Koekkoek and a backup goalie

Might get another 2M if Vegas takes Namestnikov

Garrison can likely stick around for the last year of his deal

Vegas will take Namestnikov or Dotchin.

We will be going into next season with essentially the same roster with downgrades at backup goalie and #3 center.

Isn't Point a natural center though? I always put him and Vladdy in the #3 spot depending on who gets drafted.

Yes. Even though Point/Vladdy are going to be #3c Filppula is still better at this point in time. It's a small downgrade but still a downgrade.

Yeah, I cant argue that. If Flip kept up like he did this year, he is a solid #3 and above Point/ Names for sure. But by next year, don't be shocked if Point sees a jump in production. I think the kids starting to put it together at the NHL level and I'm excited to see how he continues to develop between now and October.

Point is too smart not to. It amazes me that so many people overlooked him because of size. We've got Peca behind him, too... same thing.

Sometimes it's easy to forget how young this team is, still.

We really are a young team, not only that we have so many 25 and under players but like Hedman and Johnson who both are 26 and Stamkos just turned 27. Also Killorn is 27 and Brown is 26, it’s still a very young roster but all of those young guys have still been around for a while, it’s pretty awesome.
