The teams? Hathaway is a much better player

He's a career 20 point winger. Last season aside Reaves has also been a 20 point winger. Reaves also has those intangibles that seem to matter a great deal for Hagelin but not bottom 6 players on other teams for some reason.

Reaves is also nice to have when you have Frederic, Martin, Johnston, whoever trying to occupy Wilson's time because there's no one on their level who can f*** around with them

When you say that Reaves is a "career 20pt winger" do you mean he once had a 20pt season or that he is a reliable 20pt player?

Both of their stat lines over their careers are a matter of public record.

Either way, no point nitpicking since if we had him we both know you'd be one of his biggest fans, call them Sheriff Reaves and Deputy Wilson or something after Reaves dusts up an Islanders goon, point out how all the players and GMs respect and want him while the fans dismiss him just like with Orpik, etc

Yes. I read them both. Reaves had 1 20pt season. More than half his seasons are single digit seasons. Hathaway has 4 NHL seasons where he was a regular. 13, 19, 16, 18. The last two in short seasons. But, ok. They are the same. I will keep the one the Caps have and am fine with Reaves with the Rangers

So Hathaway is a 10-almost 20 point player while Reaves is a 5-20 point player. Amazing insight. But by all means disregard that Reaves is the top enforcer in the league while Hathaway is the standard Matt Bradley type 4th liner and pretend their impact solely comes from the exact amount of points, to the decimal.

Also this is the part where you point out that Reaves was somehow able to be a regular for one of the best teams in the league for the last 3 years and a part of their identity, but surely us fans know more than the GMs and coaches of an organEyEzation that has been finishing near the top of the NHL.

I'm going to have to side with the Texan on this one. In terms of impact, Hathaway is far superior to Reaves:

Hathaway is ordinary offensively given his deployment but he's quite an effective defensive player. Reaves is a punchman who hurts his team every time he steps on the ice, both offensively and defensively.

Reaves is terrible but hey, if you love plugs, you do you. Hathaway is above average for a 4th liner IMO.

Why are you arguing on 2 players that play a very different roles? Hathaway is a above average 4th liner and a good pest who draws penalties and can PK. Reaves has a one job in the ice and that's where he's arguably the best in the NHL at. But he doesn't need stick or gloves to do that job so the role is hardly the same as Hathaway's.

It's amazing how much time is spent shitting on our 4th liners when they were outstanding in their roles.

The Caps have a 4th line that plays 3rd line mins. Why are they getting shit on? Hagelin hate is well documented. Hathaway has a 4 year contract. If you can add in that Dowd is nothing special, that 4th line is a full on disaster.

Its not hard to see a pattern. These players largely have 2 things in common.
Hagelin Dowd
Chara Jensen

Eller Wilson/Hathaway
Dillon Carlson

Reaves scored their finals clinching goal and bullied Colorado enough this year that they traded for MacDermid. The difference between him and Hathaway isn't much.

What Reaves can do is blindside the shit out of a problem player for a team with impunity though. Would rather that player be a Matt Martin than someone on the caps but whatever

I get it. You like your shiny new toy. However this is the same guy who was scratched in the Cup finals vs the Caps and scratched against the Avs this year.

Also, don't hang your hat on that tip-in he had vs Peg. Doesn't really scream 'talent'. A tall sack of pucks with a stick could of done the same.

8x9.25 for Nurse in Edmonton.

Carlson back to being a good value contract.
Yet again an NHL team could have greatly benefited from paying someone not a lot of money to say, “Bad idea, don’t do that.” Instead, they sign Nurse to this contract which is probably $2M/year more than he deserves.
