Hello guys,

I am going to be visiting Helsinki for the Wolrd Championships.

Can you please help me out an tell me where i can buy some NHL merchendise and cards, maybe figures? i wrote an email to hockey corner, they said that they only sell caps and shirts of teams. My main interest is cards. Also can you please tell if there will be some stuff for same at the arena on WC games? What are the usual prices for shirts and food, beer :naughty: (as you guys already hosted WC last year)?

Also maybe some fun places to visit, hockey related and not, i know you have a nice aquarium and amusment park:handclap:

Thank in advance.

The problem is the games are played in clearly most expensive city of Finland. In houses, we have two markets. Helsinki markets and rest of the Finland's markets for example.. From my homtown, I can buy a 60m^2 house with around 50k. In Helsinki, I would probably haveto pay close to 200k for it.

The same goes for beer. I can drink long island ice tea for 6€ (the drink that requires special licence from restaurant to make in Finland, as it contains so much alcohol), in Helsinki its around 20€. Beer 3€, in Helsinki 7€. Ofcourse there is expensive places here too for beer drinking, but I dont know if there is cheap places in Helsinki (but there can be, I hope some one advices you).

Hockey cards can be found at flea markets. There were big at magazines, I used to play hockey cards when I were kid there. But those magazines were burned, hope some Helsinkian can advice you where to find flea markets these days.

Helsinki is relatively safe place still, even thought its not even close as homogenic city as rest of the Finland. Personally when I go to Helsinki, I ready up like I would go to abroad: Im aware of the possible pick pocketers ect, though't there shouldn't be a big problem, there is some due to multicultural people and why not even poor whites would be doing it with the cost of living in Helsinki.

The amusement park is fun, but make sure you eat first ect before you go there if you want to save money. Its overly expensive, its ridiculous to eat or anything there.

^^^ Long Island Iced Tea 6e in your town...hard to believe it's the real deal.

Beer price in Helsinki downtown is expensive but when you go to for example in Kallio district, in the area you can find close to hundred of different bars/pubs where beer is often cheaper. Cheapest around 3 euros. Though some of the places might be little rougher/drunkish but there is also good bars: beer around 5-5.5.

World Championships prices will be horrible again for sure.

Don't know much of NHL products/cards as I rarely do my shopping in downtown.

If you like amusement park stuff I guess you might like Ferris Wheel that will open close to market square on May Day.

Koff Pub tram is also something you might like, drinking beer and looking the sights.

Nothing major in international level but biggest outside lcd-screen in Nordics region is in Kamppi:

And even if you don't like these kinds of culture stuff...a must place imo would be to see the "Rock Church" build inside a rock...and looks like a UFO from sky view.

And I guess you'll come here by cruise-ship...so you can't miss this in western harbour... Verkkokauppa.com, the largest electronics store in Europe, that ugly one on right

The place has a sightseeing terrace with MiG-21BIS (Edit. the plane is real...it has served in Finnish Defense Forces):

These are just some ideas but best way is to search the net by your individual likes...

Helsinki is a very safe city compared to just about any european capital. It can be expensive, but you can eat & drink for a pretty reasonable price if you do some research and go to the right areas.

I have no idea if they have any hockey card/merchandise stores, there used to be several but that was years ago. I'd probably guess that they have moved to operate on the internet these days.

When are you coming over? If you're here on the 1st of May, it's pretty crazy. Basically the whole country goes crazy on the last day of april, a lot of drinking and partying goes on. Then on the 1st of May people go out and have a picnic in one of the larger parks in the city. It's pretty fun.

I'm not sure what to recommend since I don't know what you're into. If the weather is good, go hang out and have a picnic in Suomenlinna. Helsinki is pretty compact, but I'd really recommend getting a day (or week) ticket to the public transport and moving around with the trams and metro. That way you can see a lot of sights and different places very quickly.

I recommend checking this site out, it has pretty good tips for tourists in Helsinki: http://www.visithelsinki.fi/en

Hockey card shops are a dying breed, I remember a few from the 90's, but they're long gone. I think they sell some cards at R-kiosks and bigger shops, though.

Regarding the sights of Helsinki, it all depends on your preferences. If you want to do a cheap sightseeing-tour of sorts, hop in to the tram line 3T/B, it goes past some of the bigger sights of Helsinki. You might even witness traditional Finnish hobos.

Probably not made out of the finest possible alcohols.. and Im not sure if its the absolute original version, but it seems and tastes legit

Its kinda of legendary thing in that one bar.. honestly that's unique price, it's bit over 10€ or so in other places.

You (our guest) could check this out if you find it intresting..

http://www.heureka.fi/en

It's in tikkurila, but it will make no difference, if you dont live in the ring 3 you wont really notice the difference when you go by train.

If you like modern art then this is good place to go:

Or more classic arts..

http://www.ateneum.fi/en

And if you want to watch hockey (like the World Championships) from screen and drink, or Formula 1 and also other sports, try Sports Academy bar / club.. I've heard its one of the best.

Do you have any tips for me, as a first timer in Tallin? I have never been there, but me and my friend are making a daytrip there next month. We will probably have time to spend in the City, what would you recomend? We will be moving by car, probably a van. :)

Im not intrested in drinking or partying as its a day trip, but eating, culture and sights.

You can visit the Old Town right in the center of Tallinn, nice for walking and taking pictures, alot of old buildings and it like a 5 minute walk from harbour.

http://www.kumu.ee/en/ - biggest art museum in Tallinn, modern art, old art, right now they are even having a Anime Cover Art exibition, the museum is located in Kadriog park (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kadriorg) . So you can have a walk there, some cool places there like Kadriorg Palace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kadriorg_Palace).
There is also a museum of art there - http://www.kadriorupark.ee/.

Kadriog park is located within 5 minute walk from the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallinn_Song_Festival_Grounds).

http://www.lennusadam.eu/en/ - Sea museum also located close to the harbour, a very intersting museum with a alot of boats, plaines and a submarine inside (all real). The family ticket was 15 Eurous, so maybe 5-6 Euros per adult.

Estonian Open Air Museum - villiage type museum in Rocca Al Mare, 15 minutes by taxi from center of Tallinn, the best part is that the Tallinn Zoo is located in the same distrect (http://www.tourism.tallinn.ee/fpage/explore/attractions/rocca#!p_174739, http://www.tallinnzoo.ee/)

Cool places to eat and drink:

http://www.beerhouse.ee/ - home made beer and nice food.

http://www.brewery.ee/ - very good food and alot of different beers.

http://www.oldehansa.ee/ - traditional Estonian food and beer.

All places are in old town, right in the center of Tallinn.
