I can see the Sabres possibly being better than Florida. Montreal finishes at the bottom...Ottawa will still be a better team, despite the off ice drama.

I’ll be pissed if we’re the first team out of the playoffs but 1OA would certainly be a good consolation.

It would be a bittersweet season for the Avs based on my predictions, missing the playoffs by a point or two but getting two picks in the top 15 for a deep draft, including the best odds for Jack Hughes thanks to Ottawa.

Nice to see I'm not the only person high on Buffalo heading into the season. I'm still seeing a lot of predictions with the Sabres as a bottom-five or bottom-three team again, but I'm more confident than last year that they will make a push for the playoffs and will get in if they get even average goaltending (say combined .910-.915 save percentage).

As for the bottom three in the Atlantic, I think they are pretty interchangeable in the order and none of the three will enter the playoff conversation. They will all be bottom-10 teams overall. Detroit, Montreal and Ottawa.

I guess most fan bases must be fine with their standing? Typically these predictions are a lightning rod for criticism and ridicule, but perhaps I'm getting better at them or everybody is accepting any and all predictions this season since Vegas defied all the odds last season. As always, time will tell!

So my Sabres didn’t look like a surprise/sleeper playoff team last night, disappointing debut. Vegas looked human, finally, in their home opener. Luckily for them and for my predictions, it’s an 82-game season. Fun times ahead!

I don't get the hype with Tampa Bay, to be honest. They've consistently failed to get it done in the playoffs and everyone calls them the cup favorites every season. They're the new Capitals IMO, they're chokers until they prove they're not.

They are the new Capitals until they are the Capitals and crowned champs. This could be Tampa's year! Plenty of scoring depth, solid on defence with an elite goalie, I like their chances.

Except many times the Caps outplayed their opponents in the playoffs and were a little unlucky. TB has been dominated by the top teams- proof that you can't trust midgets.
