News keeps coming today! This would bring the Leafs current cap space to roughly 24.6-25.1M

Edit: If Horton was used on LTIR, the Leafs have 29.9-30.4M of available cap to spend

Wasn't it always assumed the cap would be 80?

the leafs have 3.5 million in bonus overages so that negates most of the 5 million. the question is which 5 million?

If we can avoid using LTIR this year we should, carrying performance bonuses over into the next season when the Matthews and Marner deals start is going to be difficult
I like this idea, don't use the LTIR this year and take the cap hit.

hoping dubas can work some magic and get rid of martins 2.5 as well, its a bit more wiggle room, especially for a guy thats fallen way down the depth chart

leafs would highly likely want to not use horton's contract LTIR this year and absorb last years and this years bonuses to avoid losing cap next season

He almost surely won't be able to get rid of it completely, but I could see flipping him for a similar guy at a lesser price.

Good news for the Leafs. Terrible news for teams like Ottawa and Arizona.

Yeah sucks for those peasants, but we stay #Lavish. Besides we carry the f***ing league with our talent production and sales figures, we DESERVE the best.

Don't forget on top of that Joffrey Lupul's contract finally expires, so he no longer needs to be moved onto LTIR.

I hope Loops has been banking some of that $5M salary the last few years.

So this news basically confirms JT to Toronto or no?

So can we sign JT now? We still have to consider signing Nylander this year and Matthews, Marner the following year. We can’t spend to the max justt because we have money.

30 million in space.

Thats more than enough to heavily upgrade the team

Not when you consider that they're downgrading already by letting JVR and Bozak walk. Then add in the fact that Dubas probably can't/won't spend all that 30 million because we can't be at the cap next year while still giving raises to Marner/Mattheys the following year.

There will be some spending in free agency for Toronto. But most likely any upgrade for this team will have to come from within, or from individual players taking a step.

Cap is set 79.5mill gives us a little over 24million in room. I think Trotz to Isles almost puts the nail in the coffin on JT. Rumor now Lou is looking at Carlson..so I guess they aren't? I dont even know if one rumor came true when Lou was our GM except Marleau but it was hours before not days

I don't know why people are excited about the cap going up.

The Big 3 extensions will be based on cap hit percentage. We should hope for small growth until they're signed.

Thankfully, $79.5 is on the lower end of the earlier speculations. Not too bad. I would like to see Matthews and Marner signed before a potential bigger jump next season.
