Hello everyone, I am a longtime reader, first time poster and I was reading the Detroit Free Press today and read an article about Will Weber from the Gaylord area, which is somewhat close to me.

I was wondering what you knowledgeable folks thought of him or if you have heard anything that the free press did not cover. Also, I know it is extremely difficult to tell, but what team do you think he will go to or where would he fit best?

Here is the article link:

Edmonton-ish!
He had interviews with a couple of NHL teams in April apparently:
Weber said several NHL teams have set up interviews with him during the Chicago Showcase April 18-22, but said they have asked him to stay mum on which teams

He was the #1 USHL pick in May '07, by the Chicago Steel.
We are very excited to select Will with our top pick and have him a part of our program for next season, " said Steel GM Jason Koehler. "Our entire staff has had the chance to see him play and all we could say is ‘wow.’ It's hard to find quality defensemen at any level, but we feel we were able to get the best one in the country that will be playing in the USHL out of this draft.
He's physically and mentally tough and will no doubt succeed at the junior level and beyond
- both from http://michiganjuniorhockey.blogspot.com/2007/05/gaylords-weber-goes-no-1-in-ushl-draft.html

I think he sounds like he could be a talented defenseman. At 6'4", 205 lbs he has the size for solid defensive play, but I don't know how good he is (or could be) offensively. I've seen him on a few mock drafts, and he seems to be on average about the 61st pick. That's all I know. :)

"Weber said he has talked to officials from almost every NHL team. He said the Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning and New Jersey Devils have shown the most interest. He's tested for Columbus and will test for New Jersey this week. Tampa Bay officials visited him in Gaylord on Monday. Still, Weber is not sure what will happen this weekend."

Sounds like he could be a surprise pick on day one. Skating ability and size in a d-man are assets that make scouts drool. My guess is he goes late in the 2nd round (55-60).
