NHL, NHLPA challenge exclusive videogame licensing deals

I've seen this story pop up on a number of game sites.

One version of the story seems to be that the NHLPA negotiated an "exclusive" contract with EA Sports, without input from the NHL. NHL vetoed the deal.

Now apparently there are negotiations/mediations in place to renegotiation with EA Sports and the "NHL 2K5" manufacturer.

(To put this into context, the NHLPA handles the licensing that includes player likenesses, the NHL handles the licensing that uses the team/league logos.)

EA is stupid. They make ******, rehashed games year in and year out. And this year, they actually took content away from games that were released on XBOX 360. Madden 06 is probably the worst game ever released. It looks pretty, but they even took away the commentators. They have some ****** radio guy with general lines.

"Ball is at the 30"
"He throws it!"

Too arcadey as well. NHL 2k6 is buggy as hell... But it's still hella fun.

Trying playing EA's NFL Street. Now that's hella fun. EA come so close to making outstanding games but year after year try to make too many improvements. While all that's needed are subtle changes.
