Here's how many skaters on these top-20 lists each team had last year, in order of the teams' place in the standings:

1.NSH 5
2.WPG 4
3.TBL 3
4.BOS 5
5.VGK 1
6.WSH 4
7.TOR 1
8.MIN 1
9.ANA 2
10.PIT 4

3 top-10 teams seem to have been snubbed. VGK, TOR, and MIN.

Vegas we're all still trying to figure out. Even one seems generous, though Karlsson, marchessault, perron, and smith all played like top-20 guys at their positions last year....though none of us is convinced that will last.

The wild seem to have been snubbed - particularly Staal. I guess I can see why people still hold his down years against him, but there's no question he's been back to being an impact #1 the last couple years. He should be in a top 20. Spurgeon could also make a run at a top-20, too.

The leafs seem to be a clearer snub - multiple elite draft picks putting up great numbers for the 2nd highest scoring team in hockey over the last 2yrs, yet only 1 guy to crack a top-20 list.

11.SJS 1
12.LAK 2
13.PHI 4
14.CBJ 3
15.NJD 1
16.FLA 1
17.COL 2
18.STL 2
19.DAL 3
20.CGY 2
21.CAR 0

A bit muddier in the middle here, but there seems to be a couple outliers here still.

Philly with 4 seems a stretch. And the likely culprit here is Gostisbehere., who really shouldn't be on any top-20 list.

And the Canes get a bit snubbed here, as Slavin is probably a top-20 dman.

22.NYI 2
23.EDM 2
24.NYR 0
25.CHI 1
26.VAN 1
27.DET 0
28.MTL 0
29.ARZ 1
30.OTT 1
31.BUF 1

nothing crazy down in the bottom 10. the 2 stars on NYI/EDM tried to carry their team out of the bottom but just couldn't do it, while the rest of the dregs are no surprise.

HF Takeaway: Clearly the Leafs are overhyped and overrated by everyone.
