"For our second and penultimate selection of this draft round, the Tampa Bay FireSticks are exceptionally delighted and enthusiastic about the announcement of our Wildcard pick. We had no clue what to select, given how expansive this topic is, but we were encouraged in recent conversation with @DancingPanther, whom we admire with @FlyerNutter and other healthcare professionals on our Board. We select the cure for cancer as our wildcard. The FireSticks ownership, like most of you, have been deeply affected by this scourge through the loss of loved ones.

"As DP knows more than most here, medical science has made great advances in being able to work against cancer at not just a molecular but a genetic level and the current prospect of greatly reducing the terrible burden of this horrible, horrible disease is significant. We should say diseases because the different types work in very different ways.

"What we are drafting, then, is complete and absolute knowledge of the mechanisms through which each type of cancer develops and spreads and the exact methods to eradicate them rapidly, efficiently, and painlessly. No surgery, no chemotherapy or other treatments that are often worse than the cancer itself, no agonizing waiting, testing, and biopsies.

"We will, of course, make this knowledge freely available to all healthcare organizations with the provision that it be used for free to all patients everywhere.

"It is not our nature to use such language, and we hope His Holiness will absolve us of this profanity ..."

"but f*** cancer, once and for all, in the QuackVerse, the multiverse, every verse, chorus, and bridge, now and forever."
Beautiful.

Just remember that the Plats are proud owners of mRNA technology. We are willing to collaborate on this if needed.

Crazy you boys have kept it going this long. Well done!

Great wildcard choice BP.

We start the day with @JojoTheWhale on the clock, @GKJ on deck, and @Lord Defect on the lido deck, with about 100 make-up picks to be made.

So just make them already.

EDIT: I had to do a bunch of things and didn't have time to post my review. I watched "Wasted Times" on Prime, Chinese film from 2016. I'm pretty sure it's a masterpiece, and I am also 100% sure that you have to watch it at least twice to understand it. It has the stylization of early Coen Brothers - very, very deliberate cutting. It stars the utterly scrumptious Ziyi Zhang, and that's all that matters, but the rest of the cast was awesome. It takes place mostly in Shanghai just before, during, and just after WWII, but it jumps around some. Shanghai in that period (and the couple decades before) is a hugely rich environment for storytelling.

It's just that the Chinese point of view is so inscrutable and alien to anyone with Western sensibilities that it's hard to absorb what they are going for. It's one of the reasons that batshit crazy HK action thrillers are the first thing we go to when we think of Chinese cinema - there's nothing important concealed. The other reason is that they rule.

EDIT 2: ESPN is f***ing terrible.

After a brief discussion with our official forum poster @kudymen, we have changed direction on our next pick. We are astonished that this weather person has not been picked several times before, but we are not complaining.

While he didn't get much of it right when he wrote about the weather, he did give us the term meteorology, and in his work with that title, closely described the process of evaporation and precipitation as we understand it today. He also had some understanding of the truth of hydrology and geology. Apparently, he also was a philosopher of some repute.
