Wednesday night, at Ryerson University’s newly renovated Mattamy Athletic Centre (site of the famed Maple Leaf Gardens), NHL players played hockey. No, lockout hasn’t been resolved, but nonetheless much to the delight of 2600+ fans in attendance, RBC in partnership with the NHLPA hosted the ‘Play Hockey’ Charity Challenge.

How does the lockout cloud a charity game that would otherwise not have happened?

So dramatic, so inaccurate...

The title simply alludes to the fact that the focus was not on the charities. There was little said about their work and little emphasis on Goals & Dreams and the members of the media that were there discussed at lengths that the Players Association could have done more to take away from the lockout and focus instead on the funds and where the money was going (Paralympics/Olympics, local hockey programs, equipment for youth, womens hockey, university hockey etc...). There was hardly any discussion on it, even after the game when the players themselves made little effort to draw attention away from the lockout and onto the kids. Only Subban truly spoke passionately about the cause.
