I've been watching hockey since 1991. I can remember maybe between 5 and 10 (8-10 if I thought REALLY hard) games during the regular season. I can remember probably 20 all star games. Maybe not the actual game itself, but rather highlights or interesting tidbits...but mostly the event of gathering with fellow friends, family, and players.
I remember vividly the first NA vs The World. I remember vividly Heatleys all star game explosion. I remember Owen Nolan's "point". I remember waiting endlessly to see what Ovechkin and Crosby on the same line could produce...only to be a little disappointed. I remember whole-heartedly John Scott's triumph and it marks 1 of 5 times there was dust in my eye during a hockey moment.
The all-star game is not a problem. Perhaps what's more of a problem is what they've tried to morph it in to. They've turned it into a joke IMHO but that doesn't mean the ASG doesn't have its place.
