January 18, 2011, 8:00 pm Hockey as You Have Never Seen It

By THE NEW YORK TIMES

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Buffalo Sabres, the club and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo mounted “Forty: The Sabres in the N.H.L.,†a special exhibition that ran from Nov. 7 to Jan. 9.

“N.H.L. in 360°†shows hockey as it has never been seen before, the way the players themselves see it on the ice — not in simulation, but during actual play. Here it is, and after the jump you’ll also find the explanatory text that accompanied it at the Albright-Knox.

Would this appeal to the younger generation of "new" fans? Speed really comes across.

Only if it were available on CDrom, comes with joysticks & you can control the players & play. Wonder if anyones come up with that one yet?. :sarcasm:

Watching that for 15 seconds makes me feel sick, that wouldn't work in a game format, I don't even see how it's debatable.

The NHL have done a fantastic job promoting the game post lock out, this would be officially going over board. There's nothing wrong with how the game is shown.

I kind of like it. I think it is difficult for the average fan to comprehend the skill level in the NHL, how tight the spaces really are for passing, the incredible skill of these guys. This would help some. Unless you've played at this level, everyone should sit on the glass for a few good NHL games. This is the closest I've seen so far.

It's does feel a bit disassociated though, but as technology improves that should improve too.
