Recency bias as in EP is just getting better every year whereas Marner fell back.... I guess you think Giroux should be top 10 since he scored 100P a few years ago.

Marner got 94 points in 18-19 while on his elc and paced for 93 this year. Is 1 point really falling back?

Giroux? Really? Nice leap. Don't hurt yourself.

At least those point totals are close, Petterson has not gotten to within 25 points of what Marner has cracked
Nice cherry-picking of stats. EP had 66 points in 68 games before the season ended, if it was an 82 game season he would have finished close to ppg. Main reason Marner has a ppg season is because he played with Tavares (who is a better player than Marner). EP is also an elite goal scorer and excellent on defense while Marner is mediocre at scoring goals and average defensively.

But more importantly, EP plays with a ton of heart and grit and was a beast in his first playoff run. Meanwhile, Marner disappears like a soft bum in the playoffs.

"Close to ppg" is still 14 points behind what marner actually accomplished.

Also, marner had 6 more points than tavares and anyone who watched knows that marner was the one driving his line. Thats why tavares went from 88 points playing with mitch to pacing for 78 this year playing with nylander. Mean while mitch paced for another 93 points during a slightly down year.

Way to use an extremely short sample. 82 games and 94points >> 17 games and 18 points. Its not even close.

Overall just a terrible post.

I'll take a full season and 94 points over 18 points in 17 playoff games any day. Short sample and recency bias are clouding peoples judgment.

EP is an awesome player but marner is ahead for now.
I’ll take the better overall player this past year and playoffs which is EP by a decent margin.
Marner is a great player (I’d rank him anywhere from 23rd to 25th best overall forward) but a few people are ignoring the more recent season and focusing on less relevant data to form their opinion. The majority are using the more relevant information and voting for the player who is the better player based on the past season and playoffs. That’s the only really logical way to assess two players when one is in only his second season and has clearly taken huge steps over his rookie of the year season. His ability to up his game in the playoffs over a 17 game sample size against some elite defensive teams is just more evidence of where his game is at.

such poor logic... maybe youre not aware that EP only played 68GP last season because it was a SHORTENED SEASON. He wouldve had around 80P maybe more. And are just dismissing the playoffs and 2 way play?

He also wasnt carried by an elite centre like Matthews. He IS the elite centre.

Also, EP just turned 22, and hes getting better ever year... Marner regressed.

Kid...you referenced a playoff sample where there were no fans and travel. A situation that literally never happens in normal circumstances. That's literally the only reason for EP over Marner because Marner dominates him in RS production.

What's your point, do you mean that Marner excels with travels and fans... end EP doesn't . huhhh that's an opinion or ..

Marner havn't been playing very much post season games, but the last ones was about the same production and result as the years before.

One could argue that Nylander is better then Marner. If all those leafs players are so fantastic they have to show more results.

It’s a shame Marner couldn’t elevate his game under that same kind of adversity. Being shut out in two of five games and almost a third game against a playoff bubble team is disappointing from the Leafs young stars to say the least.
The playoffs is all about being able to handle adversity and unexpected circumstances. The fact that EP excelled in those unusual circumstances and against some of the top defensive teams in the league isn’t helping your argument at all.

The only thing that is terrible is your opinion.

I guess playoffs don’t matter?

Goal scoring doesn’t matter?

Defense doesn’t matter?

Playing with heart as opposed to disappearing like a softy doesn’t matter?
