Disappointing draft overall. Actually getting more excited about Soderstrom after sobering up and having some time to think and read up on him. Really hate that it cost us a 2nd but the defense core is shored up for some time, which means we can use the Murelo money on forwards. Hopefully we will be drafting later for the next couple seasons and hit on some top 6 guys in the later parts of the draft.

So was Visintin.... goalies take 5-6 years to develop.

We've got Hill, Madsen, Kallgren, Prosvetov & Tendeck...didn't need to draft a goalie this year.

In the end, we actually got some decent value. The question is the design of gaining that value. If every player taken in the 2nd round was a player that we had valued far later, then all we can do is question the ordering of the board that the scouts create and how that applies to giving up a 2nd round pick in a trade.

Glad to see that we got forwards with all but one of the post first-round picks (seriously, what is the deal with us getting ALL the Swedish defensemen...?). No idea at all whether any of them will pan out.

I dearly hope that Soderstrom will not only be the second coming of OEL, but that he'll be available to play for us sooner rather than later.

Does Westerlund+74 get us any of those players?

Given where he was selected, Westerlund has to be our biggest draft mistake in quite some time. What a miss.

Some decent guys picked around him too. Formenton 3 later hurts, as does Comtois 6 later.

FWIW I doubt Westerlund has any trade value. Has he made any progress in the 2 years since we drafted him?
