I have Spurgeon a hair ahead of Provorov. Both are comfortably better than Giordano - however much he was the best two years ago it doesn't mean that much anymore. His game fell off significantly. And the Dahlin vote at this point is a joke. He is an incredibly promising future elite #1D-man, he is not currently near that level, and not even used as a top pair D.

The guy who won the Norris the year before last by the largest margin since 2007-08 Lidstrom.

Hell why not throw Keith and Subban out there too if we're basing this on past Norris wins. Giordano was not great this season, and was horrible in the playoffs on top of that.

Gio was still a top pairing defenseman this year though, even if he wasn't as good as usual. It's not the same as Keith and Subban.

"Keith and Subban" isn't a thing either. I'm actually under the impression that Keith can still be a fine #2, more or less where Giordano is at. Subban was way worse than that last year, just based on that he shouldn't be voted top 60.

PK Subban will be better than all the players listed here next season. He should be eligible by next vote. One bad season shouldn't erase everything he's done - he's still quite young. Just the year prior - injury filled season - but was Nashville's best overall player come playoffs. And the year before, Norris finalist.

People are writing him off way too quickly.

I hadn't seen his TOI numbers. Just knew he put up very good numbers for only playing 59 gms and looked really good the few times I watched him.
Buffalo is heavily sheltering Dahlin. He's not on the top pair and he gets the easiest zone starts. Wait until he gets used like a top pair D-man before you anoint him a top 10-15 D-man.

I agree Keith and Subban aren't the same, but Gio's numbers were still much better than Keith's, and even if we say they were on the same level last season (which I wouldn't), it's one season at that level for Gio after a Norris win, whereas Keith is 3 seasons removed from playing at an elite level. I get putting more weight on this past season for a player at Gio's age, but that's also why he's still here. If he was 30, it would be chalked up to a down year and he'd be in the top 10.

There were already signs in his last year in Nashville that his game was slipping and last year wasn't just a down year, he was one of the worst players in the league. I wouldn't write him off completely but he needs to show it first.

Being voted this low is not being written off or critically underrated. Look at this group of defensemen, it's insanely deep. Most of the players after 10 are interchangeable without much of a gap in their skill levels even if it appears that way because of the numerical ordering.
