If this had been implemented last year, we would have received a 2nd round pick for Tim Murray.
Now the interesting part of this scenario from our perspective, Luke Richardson has one year left on his contract with the Binghamton Senators which will conclude at the end of the season.
Under the wording of the article, it appears that we retain his rights up until July 1st. For NHL coaching positions, the vast majority of hiring happens before the NHL draft. The Buffalo Sabres have been rumored to be interested in Luke Richardson for a long time. If Richardson is hired before July 1st we would get Buffalo's 3rd round pick in 2016. And since our organization is dying for prospects into our system, that would be amazing news.
