Hello again from the NYR Boards. Due to requests from multiple posters across the boards, I've decided to continue the All Time draft into a second round. The rules for this draft are as follows, if you did not remember:

1. Every team gets a single pick in the round, and the draft order follows the standings as of 3/20/2020 (the first day of the draft). So even if a team traded its 1st Round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, they still get a choice in this draft.
2. All retired/inactive NHL players are considered eligible for this draft (including guys playing overseas like Jagr). This also includes players like Tretiak who never had an NHL career but are hockey legends in their own right. All active NHL players, as well as players whose rights are owned by an NHL team, are ineligible
3. It is assumed that player abilities are "up-to-date" with the modern game, so a player like Eddie Shore who played in a far different NHL will not be at a disadvantage compared to say Wayne Gretzky or Jaromir Jagr
4. All players will be drafted into the organization at the age of 18, similar to the NHL Entry Draft
5. It is assumed that players will have a similar ceiling to during their playing career, and have the ability to reach said ceiling, although this is not guaranteed. Similarly, they are not guaranteed to suffer the same injury woes they did during their career (should that be relevant)
6. I'll give 2-3 days for votes to come in before the next team goes on the clock.
7. In the event of a tie, I will set up a tiebreaker poll
8. Please check the below post before voting for a player, as it's possible they have already been taken. And remember again, active players are ineligible.

Brett Hull (or Newsy Lalonde if we can exploit the "abilities are "up-to-date" ")

As far as I'm concerned, Red Kelly, Frank Nighbor and Jacques Plante are the best available players.

There might not be much of a point in drafting Nighbor only to have him play second fiddle to Beliveau, however (despite being very different players)

Henri Richard and Newsy Lalonde wouldn't even be a bad picks either, but Nighbor is the best player here.

For an eventual 4th round, possibly (and then you just hope everyone forgets about Bill Cook or Charlie Conacher and nab either of them in the 3rd round. Especially Cook, who wouldn't even be a bad pick at this point, though there definitely are better players).

Brett Hull's peak was statistically ridiculous, but that came through playing with one of the most ridiculous pass-biased player in history, something Jean Beliveau is definitely not. His numbers are were starkly different with Oates injured, even during his peak.

Fun tidbit : Red Kelly won the Stanley Cup 8 times. The only players who with more Cups than him are Canadiens players.

He has also beaten Alan Eagleson in a federal election. One of the very few players whose official position would be D/C.

OKay. I'm officially casting my vote for D/C Red Kelly. Quite easily a Top-5 offensive D-Men of all-time, and played most of his career with really average partners to boot. Won 8 Stanley Cups, Zero with the Habs. 4 as the #1 D of the Wings on a very offensive squad, 4 as the #1A Center of the Maple Leafs on a very defensive squad. So it's not like he was along for the ride.

I'm ready to change it to C Frank Nighbor or G Jacques Plante, if that can prevent a non-Kelly player from winning this poll.

Those are easily, very easily the best three players available. We do have one Center on the lineup already, but Nighbor being arguably the best defensive center of all-time, and Center being a prime position, he's a candidate here.

Jacques Plante is possibly the best player, but I'm not sure that goaltending is a prime position here, and you can probably draft a very, very solid one in 4 rounds. But you absolutely cannot draft anything equivalent to Red Kelly. He should've been gone about 20 picks ago.

Also : Morenz at #31 is a damn steal for the Bruins.

Sorry for the delay folks, HF did that thing again where it doesn't update you that people have posted in a Watched thread

Voting:
I'll update this comment as each new vote comes in, but I can only count it if it's a single player vote (so not "Shore or Harvey" for example). If you're changing your vote later on, that's fine, just make a note of it.

Brett Hull (2) - Treb, Goal Caufield
Henri Richard (1)- A Loyal Hot Dog
Red Kelly (2)- MXD, CHfan1
Frank Mahovlich (1)- Chili

Well folks, it looks like we currently have a tie. I've added a tiebreaker poll between Brett Hull & Red Kelly, that will be up for the next 48 hours. If at the end of that time, the poll is tied, i will either move it to sudden death, flip a coin, or something else, idk right now

I remember tripping with the few first NHL games where Hull had a 99 slapper, I would just shoot when entering the zone, hoping to break the glass, but sometimes, instead of breaking the glass, the puck would bounce to the goalie's back and I'd score.

I remember being so amazed when Hull accomplished the feat.

How many glasses did he break back then?
