MOD edit: Teams can move up maximum of 10 spots. It's a count down of all 16 teams that missed playoffs.

Current Draft Order:

16. St. Louis Blues
15. Detroit Red Wings
14. Pittsburgh Penguins (SJS own this pick due to Karlsson trade)
13. Minnesota Wild
12. Philadelphia Flyers
11. Buffalo Sabres
10. New Jersey Devils
9. Calgary Flames
8. Seattle Kraken
7. Ottawa Senators
6. Utah Hockey Club
5. Montreal Canadiens
4. Columbus Blue Jackets
3. Anaheim Ducks
2. Chicago Blackhawks
1. San Jose Sharks

Just excited about the Celebrini sweepstakes. T-minus 3 days until we find out!

I have this horrible gut feeling Chicago or Utah wins 1st Ov.

Am I missing something? I thought that they have two lotteries for 1st and 2nd. If you don't win any of those, you either stay where you are, move back a spot or two at worst.

So how do the Habs have a chance to select 3rd?

I believe if Philly(12th) wins the 1st lottery then they can only move up 10 spots to 2nd overall, then if Montreal wins the 2nd lottery then we'd be given 3rd since Philly already won 2nd.

Dropping to 7th would seemingly be a disaster. Obviously we’d all be pissed. On the bright side though, this may be the most unpredictable top 10 ever. A scout was quoted as saying in his 35 years of working around the draft and talking to teams, he has never seen as much variation in top of the draft rankings as this year.

We could technically drop to 7 and still come away with a Lindstrom, Catton or Iginla..especially if the teams ahead of us are enamoured with the plethora of top defensemen.

If team 12 win lottery for first so they can’t go to 1st only second they get bumped to 2nd since you can’t move more than 10 and then I think if we win lottery for second after that we end up third

If my math ain't wrong. it has a 0.029% chance of happening

25.5% (SJS 1st) * 7.7% (UTAH 2nd) = 1.7% of this order chance.
Ooh, maths, fun!

Both events (1st and 2nd lottery) are not independent because once SJS wins the 1st spot, they can't win the 2nd spot.
P(A and B) = P(A)*P(B|A) i.e. the probability of A times the probability of "B happening if A has occurred".

I think that translates to 25.5% * 7.7%/(100%-25.5%) = 2.636%

*Edit: I think I need to remove 18.5% instead of 25.5% for the second lottery, so 2.409%

Attendees will be sequestered. Are they going to take away all their electronics?
from what i understand, the lottery is already done and audited, the TV part is just ratings and drama and is not a real event. They have to have it audited by KPMG or whoever before verifying the lottery.

You mean I had to read 82 games of pro-tank anger for nothing?

I’m still excited for lottery day :)

If Philly wins the lottery they move to 2nd, which means the lottery for 2nd turns into a lottery for 3rd.

Well. Tankathon really put things into perspective for me. I’ll be happy with #5.

Anyone remember back in 2005 Lotto, we almost got Crosby....
We got Price. Wasn't bad either. Instead of Price playing behind the likes of Gustafson and John Merrel, you'd have Crosby play with Anderson and Gallagher. Pick your poison.
