GDT: NHL 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs -MOD WARNING #762

Have I missed something major regarding playoff teams' draft pick rankings? The eight teams eliminated in the first round get picks 15 through 22, no? Hence Sharks automatically get moved to the 23-26 bracket by getting to the second round. Might not have been a major drop, depending on whether higher ranked teams get eliminated in the first round or not, but a drop nonetheless.

That is unless I've missed something, but nothing of the kind shows up when you google it.

They have to make it to the conference finals to change their pick status. NHL is weird like that

The teams that did not qualify for the playoffs the previous season (picks 1-14)
The teams that made the playoffs in the previous season but did not win either their division in the regular season or the Stanley Cup (picks 15-25 or 26)
The teams that won their divisions in the previous season but did not win the Stanley Cup (picks 26 or 27-29)
The team that won the Stanley Cup in the previous season (pick 30)

Why did we get the 25th pick and Montreal the 26th in 2014 when we won the Presidents' trophy (let alone the division) and they didn't even make the finals, then? We should've picked 29th by those criteria, or at the very best 26th, if tiebreaker between division winners was who made it the furthest, as opposed to who had the most points.
