Shutting barn door after horse escaped.

Sigh.
Do you think other neurologists will no longer want to be associated with the NFL? Seems like too much risk to the doctor (meaning either their reputation/practice/future earnings) given that all parties involved want to get the player back into the game or the next game. Unless the doctor is always leaning towards being more conservative and trying their best to keep the player out. Seems like sooner or later, that one of the players that they ok, will get hurt shortly after returning, and then have their assessment questioned.

With other regular patients you are not rushed and have time to do a full evaluation and they are not putting themselves at risk in the near future.

Yesterday more than a dozen players were benched after hits
That isn’t surprising. Would have expected a conference call or an internal memo to have gone out to reaffirm the policy.

Brate, TE for TB looked in bad shape late in the first half but he somehow managed to return on that late drive and almost caught a TD pass but was ruled out in the second half with a concussion.

The big problem is, who is the doctor serving? The patient or the team?

You may be right about not wanting to associate with the NFL. While being the doctor who got *insertstarplayernamehere*'s knee back in shape can be good for business, almost seems like there is no upside to being a neurologist for NFL teams.

It didn’t get a lot of publicity because he’s not a top end guy but Brate somehow managed to return during the 2 minute drive with TB when he collided with a teammate yet remained like a couple of minutes in real time to run a route in the end zone yet was ruled out during half time for a concussion.

Whoever looked at him during those couple of plays between his collision and when he returned to the game should be questioned on what happened? How can you do an assessment that quick? Clearly he took a blow but from the post game presser the HC Bowles said that Brate was only complaining about his shoulder. So the team didn’t check if his head was ok? So that means that they didn’t initiate any of the concussion protocols. Not questioning him or anyhint.

I do have to wonder if the player insisted he was fine, it was just his shoulder. Right or wrong, there is still the mentality that you have to be "tough," and "your teammates can count on you week after week".

I get what you are saying, but if there is no obvious sign, and the player is telling you he's fine...what is the neuro supposed to do?
