That's a fun and well-researched article.

But I have to admire Chip's naivete here:

"One of the top money men in the prospective ownership group, Bernard Ebbers, entered federal prison in 2006 after one of the most extensive security fraud and conspiracy cases in U.S. history. That came after three years of highly publicized indictments, charges and court appearances. Imagine the ramifications of that on a hockey team."

We don't have to imagine it... half a dozen teams have had their active owners sent to jail. Heck, during the time period covered by this article Spano, Rigas and Pocklington were all in the league and McNall was still a fresh memory.

If he was truly cheap they’d still be using all this equipment. No one gets anything new

Boots Del Biaggio says hi. Didn't realize he's been out of prison for 5 years now!

Duhatshek from the Athletic said Quick is a good fit because his cap hit is 5.8 but actual dollars are 3 million. Dundon likes to watch his actual spending.

Love echoing the same rhetoric.

We didn’t want to go Arb with a guy who would get Demko or Binnington money but we are going to trade for a guy with a higher cap hit and is worse?
