True, but aren't teams in Europe gearing up to play? (or am I wrong on this?). Isn't that why guys like Drury went to Sweden, so they could play? If that is the case, it would seem that Kron might be the last guy you want to get rid of, vs. all the guys in NA.

I do agree though, that the Canes are going to cut expenses and have furloughs just like other companies will.

That's true, I just don't know quite what it means for scouting this year. I know the pro leagues are going to re-start, but what about the amateurs? If it's only the pros, does Kron still have a job to do? If the NHL doesn't start till February or March, does Waddell just go to Europe and scout players himself?

I really don't know the answers to any of these, or even a sense of how the teams are approaching those questions. It's kind of a mess with so much uncertainty leaving jobs up in the air.

Don’t read the comments on the Slavin/Player Inclusion Committee news, just some f***ing abhorrent stuff.

On a more positive note, i’m looking forward to working my way through all of the player EOS media availability interviews. For years on end all we had to look forward was the likes of Pat Dwyer and Kevin Westgarth try and explain to us where everything went wrong. Makes the world of good to have a room full of talent I’d actually want to hear from.

There are some things that are wrong with the committee. There are a lack of women, especially women of color, in various departments of that committee, when there are smart choices available. Not a good look when that seat is filled by a white male.

That being said, there are those who are taking it too far. The aggressiveness against Slavin, in particular, is weird. I don't think Slavin adopted his daughter as part of some "white savior" complex, and I doubt anyone who's met the guy could seriously think that either.

It's tough when you guys turn on your own. Like when in the Spanish Civil War, the Communists liquidated the Anarchists once they tired of them.

I’m purely just referring to the soup for brain loud mouth antagonizers who clearly only operate from the absolute fringes of civilized society, they’re out and about and louder than ever in the comments of that Slavin stuff, across all platforms.

I haven’t actually looked into the committee stuff at all myself, just wanted to give a warning to people to not even glance at the hostility of those comment sections.

I call out stupidity when I see it, regardless of the source. If it’s “one of my own” (whatever that means), so be it. Milbury said something stupid, deserved to be called out on it, and faced the consequences of his stupidity. Unfortunately, a lot of the stupid stuff being said about Slavin can be said without any consequences, as they can ignore/block any dissenting voices and promote only those who agree with them. The issue with echo chambers that I mentioned earlier...

I want to add a bit here. I haven't read the comments about Slavin. My life would only be for the poorer if I read them, so I would rather just not.

I wanted to say that you all have been very supportive, from what I've seen, in this little community. Yes, going to forum 23 or whatever the Canes forum is called is a complete waste of time where I could be working. Sure. But it is entertaining. Y'all are funny, but more importantly, the great majority of you are sensitive. If I were to say something offensive, I trust that you would give me some flak for that. And when someone has come out and shed a little honesty about a difficult life event, y'all have been default supportive. These words mean ultimately not a ton. Obviously my family, my fiancee, my coworkers, and close friends have more influence in my life than hockeydb. However, the courtesy and kindness you show do mean something, and I do value you.

That said, Jaccob Slavin is an antifa white savior with at least 3 genders who thinks Pesce's contract is not that special.

Well, from an outsider's perspective, IDK how Slavin could possibly be a better "ally". I think it's outrageous how he's being treated over this.

I realize how "intersectionality" seeks to force its adherents to toe this strict ideological line, but I think it probably alienates more potential "allies" than it creates.

He could be a great ally, but i think it’s a fair criticism of this committee to have 5 players and one being a guy who until he adopted a black child knew zero of racism and is exceptionally devout in a church that denounces homosexuality. I don’t know his actual thoughts on that topic but on the surface, it’s not a good look.

He personally doesn’t deserve the bullshit he’s getting. He probably volunteered to do something hoping to help while educating and bettering himself in the process. I think questioning the league for including him as part of the committee is fair though.

The first point here is the crux of it though. Demanding ideological purity, regardless of what ideology, is the absolute last thing they need to be doing. It's the kind of action that turns possibly sympathetic people away because so many of the people discussing it, ESPECIALLY on social media, look less like they're addressing legitimate grievances and more like f***ing cultists demanding ideological purity and adherence to all tenants of their beliefs. A reasonable person would go "we disagree with his position on that but that has nothing to do with what's being addressed here right now", but all going nuts over Jaccob's inclusion does is cause potential allies to be completely turned away from the movement.

I didn't want to spend time researching the church—but if they denounce homosexuality, that is a problem.

As to the "savior" complex, I have first-hand knowledge. My wife and I are white, our daughter is indigenous. Just last week we had a long conversation where I cried openly when I told her "in a better world" she would not be my amazing, wise child.

Related to faith, it is not appropriate to provide details here. But if anyone (including Jaccob Slavin if he happens upon this forum) wants to know of a terrific faith-based community that openly confronts racism and accepts everyone for who they are, please PM me.

Growth has to start from somewhere, and if you discount where everyone's going based on where they've been, nobody goes anywhere.

Just want to add. I am a Christian. My church is supportive of the queer community, even though the overall UMC (United Methodist Church) recently voted to uphold anti-homosexuality tenets. I value my church hugely, and lament the recent decision. But the UMC is a massive worldwide church. The African UMC is much more traditional, so it will be a long time before the whole UMC church changes. Or, quite possibly, the church will split in the next few years.

My main point is that many Christians are allies. Many Christians are queer themselves (I use the word queer for the whole LGBTQ+ community). And yeah, many Christians are racist or homophobic assholes. Like everything else. I just wouldn't assume a Christian is anything by virtue of their faith. It's a wide basket.

Want to take the time to agree with this, with the only exception that I think the UMC split is coming sooner than that. In fact, I think the schism would have started already if they had not postponed the General Conference due to Covid. Instead we're still playing a waiting game until a year from now.

I'm glad the kid is hungry.

It's also pretty remarkable that he was having a pretty crappy season by his standards and still finished almost top five in goal scoring. Although a lot of his goals were the result of Teuvo being an absolute beast.
I didn’t read it as he thought he had a crappy season, just a crappy start, but battled through it and had a good season.
