I think moving Skjei is close to a no-brainer. Fleury looks like he can handle the same role with more physicality and less oopses. Bean needs to play every game—he apparently has experience playing on the right as well.

Either Fleury/Pesce Gardiner/Bean
or
Bean/Pesce Gardiner/Fleury with Fleury/Pesce together on the PK and used in the 3rd period when protecting a lead.

were Fleury and Bean a pair in the AHL? i had it in my head they were the top pair in charlotte, but its been a crazy year and i realize my brain may be borked.

but, if they did play together maybe putting them together would help Bean by having him skating with someone he is familiar with. a Gardiner / Pesce 2nd pair - yay or nay? full transparency - i am putting in zero thought and just throwing this out there because i'm procrastinating a couple work things.

I think Fleury and Bean were playing together some during their playoff run. That was where we saw Fleury playing his off-side well.

Just remember, if we trade Skjei, we're back to Gardiner in our top 4, or a 2nd pairing of Fleury - Pesce and 3rd pairing of Gardiner - Bean

Based on his playoff performance I'm really not that worried about a Skjei - Pesce 2nd pairing with the ability to move up Gardiner/Fleury if he starts ****ing the bed

True.

But then again, they may trade Skjei and use the cap space to re-sign Vatanen. Unlikely, but Vatanen certainly is a better fit in the top 4 than Gardiner, and I think he, like Pesce, is also comfortable on the left.

I doubt they move Skjei to be honest though. He did look pretty good in the playoffs.

If it’s me:

I move Gardiner for whatever and I move Skjei only if the price is right.

I would like to see a Fleury Pesce pair to see how/if playing with someone as defensively sound as Pesce would elevate/ open up Fleury’s game. I would not want to be stuck with that if it doesn’t work out (unless the return for trading Skjei makes it worth it)

Would you move Bean for him? Yes Arizona wants picks, but they will also need players if they are trading away a lot of veterans.

I'd think Bean for Kuemper would be the tippy top of his value. Normally I would say absolutely no but the expansion draft adds an extra layer to the decision. I'd want either 1) Kuemper + a secondary piece like Crouse/Fischer/Macceli/Farinacci or 2) Kuemper for Bean + Nino/Gardiner/Mrazek.

LeBrun this morning on Reimer:
So, the phone is ringing off the hook for Reimer because of it (his $850k salary). They’re also getting calls on Petr Mrazek. The Canes would deal one of them in an attempt to upgrade in goal.

Among the many Carolina targets, I believe, is Darcy Kuemper. And here’s what’s so interesting about that in my mind. Can you think of a team that’s in more dire need of cheaper players than Arizona? Word out of the desert is ownership wants to cut payroll in a serious manner. You’re not getting Kuemper for Reimer straight up. But if the Canes add in another asset to the deal, it makes you wonder if there’s not a fit there for Arizona.

Maybe Kuemper for Reimer + #43 or a prospect like Drury could work.

Not a great source but Reimer for Puljujarvi would be interesting if he still won't return to Edmonton.

With Lehner re-signing in Vegas, Kuemper is the only option that makes sense as a clear upgrade at a reasonable price. Friedman's report from a week or two ago that the price "starts with a 1st round pick" had me writing off that option, but if Reimer is carrying that much value where adding a 2nd or solid prospect can get it done then that's a great deal.

I didn't realize Kuemper was already 30 years old. I would only want to send valuable assets like bean for a younger goalie.

That's great if Demko is made available by Vancouver. But there aren't any other young improvements on the market.

I'd rather get someone who can extend things a couple years until we know what we have in the pipeline.

Ideally, I'd like to sign someone long-term this year. But Covid may prevent them from putting up that kind of long-term contract.

Honestly I think Reimer on an expiring contract with only 850k salary is probably the more valuable asset of the two for us right now. The plus would be that Poolparty would fill the #3 RW hole that Justin retiring would leave. The flip side is Bokk could also fill that spot imo.

The other plus would be watching the HBBoards meltdown that would inevitably follow

The amount of popcorn needed for watching the reactions of people when a goalie one year removed from being seen as buyout fodder is traded for a former franchise player caliber prospect drafted only 4 years ago to a fanbase known for overreaction online would make the covid TP shortages seem trivial.

Theory: the TP shortages were caused by HFBoards admins creating an advance stockpile to deal with the contents of that trade thread.

Well done, DaveG. This post is a Lempo level beauty.
