LeBrun has an article up about stars needing new contracts. The two stars he details are Point and Aho. Lots of interesting tidbits in the article, but the most interesting is this:

In Carolina, Aho is off to a brilliant start with the ‘Canes with 12 points (4-8) in seven games after putting up a career-high 65 points (29-36) last season. He’s their best player, pure and simple. New owner Tom Dundon has tried to toe the line on the money being spent but this player is getting paid one way or another. There have already been preliminary discussions between Johannsson and the ‘Canes before Friday’s scheduled chat.

Looks like Seabass's agent is in town talking coin.

I wouldn’t bet on there being a more favorable time to sign Aho than each day that passes. He’s only getting more valuable by the day. $7 million per year long-term is probably in the rear view mirror, but the Canes would be smart to lock him in under $8 million before it becomes $9 million or $10 million per year.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was 8+. Less than 9, but no less than 8.

Again, Aho and his agent have to want to accept that $8 million. If they aren't idiots, they know that the price tag is going up as he explodes, so why would they settle?

With this hot start and the effect it will have on his overall numbers, we're probably beyond the Ehlers to Pastrnak tier of comparables. Members of the 9%+ club include Gaudreau, Tarasenko and Draisaitl. Adjust for cap inflation and you're looking at $7.35 mil x 6 (Gaudreau), $8.16 mil x 8 (Tarasenko) and $9 mil x 8 (Draisaitl.)

I'd absolutely trade TT before I got stuck paying him $6M as a 31 year old.

Is the 7th year in the proposed 6X7 contract your issue...do you think he will fall off the Semin Cliff?

Best case scenario from the team is a Hertl type contract...but that is low-end of the market for players like TT.

That bridge deal he signed has been a great value for the club...he's performed well and earned a raise...somewhere in the $6M AAV range is reasonable. He will get it from someone...I think 5 or 6 years...probably not 7.

I just don’t see him as a guy who’s going to have a super long stretch of being point-productive, and he doesn’t add anything beyond the points. That’s not the kind of player I feel comfortable committing to for 7 years.

$6Mx5 would be hard for me to swallow but I’d take the risk rather than lose him. The other two years would be too much for my taste.
