the yankees haven't been slouches either, though. they've had many good seasons in the 2010's. if you're going to mention the 2014 rangers, you better damn well mention the 2015 mets, who made it to the world series.

Yea, NY has been underachieving relatively speaking, but there are cities far worse off.

Depends on what you're asking. In terms of raw numbers, the Knicks have more fans. Both teams generally sell out their arenas, regardless of how awful the teams may be.

Even when the Rangers were good 5-7 years ago and the Knicks garbage, if they played on the same night, the Knicks were on the primary network. There will always be more Knicks fans than Rangers fans due to basketball being more accessible/marketable than hockey ever will be.
