Wouldn't say easier to break...isn't the reason for the holes is to strengthen the area around it? Arch shape= strong structure?

Based on my experience with toilet paper, it should never break by the holes

It's not going to be necessarily stronger. I am willing to bet that with the "holes" they are using less material to reduce weight. The added strength would then be pretty much negated because of this. Also, since there would be more material being used for this "O" design, if they were to use the same thickness of the shaft(aka the same amount of material) the balance point would be off and the stick would be blade heavy.

The design will probably work well, especially limiting shaft torquing.
