New league formed and looking for GM's. The league will be simple but keep GM's involved. The below doesn't answer every question but it will give you a good feel for the league. We have 6 GM's on board who are solid GM's in other leagues with me. Looking to start with a minimum of 10 teams, with 18 being the max. PM me here if interested and I will get back to you within 24 hours.

Teams claimed (updated):
Anaheim Ducks
Carolina Hurricanes
Colorado Avalanche
Dallas Stars
New Jersey Devils
New York Rangers
Philadelphia Flyers
Tampa Bay Lightning
Vancouver Canucks
Washington Capitols
Winnipeg Jets

League basics:

Roto league: Player stats get accumulated in categories by team and each place in each category ranking is worth a certain number of points. Ex: Let’s say there are 12 teams and goals are weighted 3x as much as +/-. The stats category for +/- would be ranked lowest to highest, with the lowest ranking being worth 1 pt and the highest being worth 12 pts. The lowest goals ranking would be worth 3 pts and the highest 36 pts (because goals are weighted 3x more than +/-).

Team rosters: Each team has 14 active players (3C, 6W, 4D and 1G), 6 reserves (only 1 can be a goalie), 10 minors spots. Lineups would be set everyday and there would be no games limits played for players.

Keeper league: You can only holdover 9 skaters and 1 goalie after every season. However, you can holdover all of your minors-eligible players. This way teams will have a core group but it will allow for player movement.

Minors players: Skaters who have played less than 120 NHL games, and less than 80 NHL games for goalies.
Salary cap: We will use NHL salaries and the 2021 cap will be $90M.

Roster building:
1) Each GM picks a current NHL team. You can keep any number of players off that NHL roster on your roster, as long as you do not exceed $20M in salary (so you can stockpile more cheap players from a roster or 2 or 3 high-salaried players or any combination that does not exceed $20M). As an example, if you want to be the Edmonton Oilers, then you will not be able to select both McDavid and Draisaitl because their combined salaries are over $20M. For players who are free agents, use last season's salaries for the purpose of keeping the initial 5 players. By the time we pick the remainder of our rosters, those players should have their new contracts and the new salaries will be applied to your cap.

The remainder of the roster players will be selected in a snake draft, which will be a random draft order. Late October is pegged for this draft unless the NHL 20-21 seasons starts prior to that, then we will have to set an earlier date. There will be 4 hours between picks and there will be no autodrafting. If you miss a pick, you can make your selection anytime.

2) Each GM picks 5 prospects from the NHL team’s prospect pool (these prospects have to have played less than 120 games for skaters and 80 NHL games for goalies). You will not be able to drop these players until after the 20-21 season, but you can trade them.

3) Entry/minors draft will be 5 rounds, which will follow the current NHL draft positions (so if you pick Ottawa, then you have the 3rd and 5th overall picks). Picks in the first 2 rounds must be players selected in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The remaining 3 picks can be players selected in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft or any minors-eligible players that have not been added to any of our teams. You will not be able to drop the players from the 2020 Entry Draft until after the 20-21 season, but you can trade them.

4) Draft details: NHL.com says the NHL Entry Draft will be Friday October 9 and Saturday October 10. Our draft will be the following Saturday, October 17th starting at noon and we will have 4 hours for each team to make their picks. If they miss a pick, they can pick anytime after their pick, we will not autodraft unless a team disappears on us.

If an NHL team is not selected by any of our GM’s, then we will skip that spot in the draft (e.g., If no one selects the LA Kings, then the #2 overall spot goes to Ottawa, and so on. If we go through the 5 rounds and a team still has minors spots unfilled(let’s say the NHL team they picked only has 3 draft picks in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, we will follow the draft order skipping the teams who have drafted their quota of players, until every team has their 5 selections made.

Just a bump in the thread as we have added the Tampa Bay Lightning to our selected teams.
