FYI I can confirm the numbers RRP2 is getting. I called and asked if my vote would count if I voted for the old song and was told no decision has been made. They didn't anticipate this. Which I thought was ridiculous.

I was told that RRP2 is winning and it's not even close.

Trying to convince the majority of the fanbase otherwise is swimming upstream.

You can either ***** and moan about it like a baby and hold your breath until they change it back, or you can voice your displeasure (which you have) and try and move forward together (which the team is trying to do).

I've been incredibly vocal about the situation but I'm also trying to move ahead and start a great new tradition.

You want to change it back? You buy the team. They're trying to meet us in the middle here.

You talk about swimming upstream. Well dude, everyone here demanding it come back is going against the east australian current.

beer sounds waaay too much like the rangers song...i'll be pretty pissed if that gets chosen.

i voted for R&R Pt2 7 times today...i really dont think they are going to use this data anyway, may as well be honest.

the only person who will analyze the results will be scott o'neal. when i worked with him at msg, he was always the first one to answer a customer call when needed and was particularly well known for visiting with fans in different sections of the arena throughout different events to see how their experience was. In fact, there is a 'scott o'neal path' around a portion of the blue seats where he would famously roam. great guy, glad he's on board. if you have any other questions about tickets or sports management, feel free to shoot them over!

Let's be honest here. Ostensibly, can the team do whatever they want? Yes.

Practically? He'll no. This isn't the team meeting the fans in the middle. This is the team desperately trying to please the hundreds of STHs who have threatened not to renew. This is the team trying to desperately placate to the thousands of casual fans who just go to the game to be a part of the experience.

The team CANNOT do whatever it wants. That's silly. The team will do whatever the majority of its fan base wants for fear of losing fans, suffering in attendance, and losing MONEY.

They are slowly changing their stance. I called today and now I'm getting a "no decision has been made."

So no. The team practically speaking can't do whatever it wants.

Very well said. An NFL team can do whatever it wants because if it loses one season ticket holder, there's five waiting in line.

A small market NHL team cannot do whatever it wants. Let's be honest. We don't have fan numbers comparable to the Rangers---and certainly nowhere near the fan numbers of an NFL team.

The loss of ticket sales is a serious threat to this team, and that's why I'm withholding my money for ticket sales as a protest of the new ownership's decision.

If that last part is true it's utterly laughable...after two weeks of booing and protests up the wazoo they really didn't think people would be writing in RR2? Talk about head in the sand syndrome.

the team on the ice creates the atmosphere. if the team is ****, no hockey game will ever be fun. For me at least.

The response was what they didn't anticipate. The sheer volume of the vote. The Devils customer service has always been fantastic so I do trust there honesty on this.

I believe that. A couple hundred people probably complained during the preseason causing the change. And now thousands are responding in a variety of ways to get it back.

The entire stupidity of this debate has me as embarrassed as I've ever been off this fan base.

We are the LAST winless team in the league, facing the possibility of being a lottery pick team with no lottery pick, and creeping doubts about our last top 5 pick.

Yet we have the audacity to rail against team ownership for the right to yell out how the other guys suck. Yeah I'm sure that'll make us a tough place to play while the other teams/fans are pissing down at us on the standings. Or better, let's boo when our guys score to complete the look of a laughingstock franchise.

The team that cultivated a winning culture and a model of efficiency in the 90s and early 2000s has declared they want no part of this garbage but fans won't have it and want to *force* the team to accept it by humiliating ourselves.

When Gretzky called us a Mickey Mouse organization, Lou and Co. turned it around by getting it done on the ice. Scott Stevens and Marty (among many others) made us an intimidating team to play. Now we're prepared to let Mary's last season(s) become a humiliation.

Scotty made it "You're next" famous...

But we're willing to go scorched earth over "You suck"

SMH

And this post pretty much sums up my feelings on this. :handclap:

Yet why are they trying to change the song? Because they are trying to grow the fanbase and obviously and not unreasonably people are offended by the chants.

And lets be real, for as much as we hate to admit it, our fanbase could use some growing.

People are upset because getting rid of RRP2 completely destroys the awesome atmosphere each goal creates at the rock.
Well maybe if many of you didn't act like you have an inferiority complex by chanting "You suck" after every goal we wouldn't have this problem now would we?

It's just a goal song. The team's play on the ice is more important. I don't give a damn if they play Barbie Girl; as long as they score. It ain't worth threatening to boycott games over. Geez.

I don't think a goal song change grows the Devils' fanbase. For a midweek game against a non-marquee opponent, the team should have an "introduce a friend to hockey" day where each season ticket holder gets one free ticket to take someone to the game. That's the way to grow a fanbase, introduce them to the product.

Again this is new ownership and Hugh is on his second month heading this team on the fan front. He could have very well been discouraged by a hundred fans complaining during the preseason. Families and kids. People who may not be able I afford regular season games.

Now, after changing it and getting severe backlash, he could be realizing that they jumped the gun and are in danger of losing more fans than they would have gained.

They are no longer firm on this. Call them yourself.

The same arguments have been repeated in each of these 3 threads over and over and over and over and over and over and over again

Now somehow, somewhere we are confusing tradition of the song and atmosphere that ALWAYS came with it, as people having inferiority complex about it being changed because of 'you suck'

If the song was used for 5 years and we decided to change it fine, but we're talking 25 years here....people are mad about TRADITION and yes the atmosphere that the song created for all of those years, 'you suck' or not

This **** is just getting silly to keep bringing RRP2 up when it is more than well known that we're moving on from it and that we've moved on from it, mods shouldn't even allow commentary on anything other than song suggestions or discussing song suggestions

The Devils aren't targeting for diehard - go just for hockey - fans. They're targeting casual fans. Anyone who will go to just give it a try. A ton of casual fans are revolting. Fans who do get enjoyment out of just chanting with a crowd. Fans who maybe go to 1-5 games a year.

The Devils CANNOT afford to lose those fans. So they're starting to backtrack.

Also, couple that with some STH exercising their right to not renew, and you have a pretty decent chance of getting the song back.

Like it or not - agree with it or not - anyone here has the right to go to games for whatever reason they damn please. It is their money. And if enough people think that way (as seemingly is occurring) the Devils will (and are) listening.

Guess what, Marv?

Then you have to say that the ENTIRE BUILDING full of STH's have an inferiority complex since ALL OF THEM do the "You Suck" chant.

Care to get on the loud-speaker there and inform them of this, then run out of the building real fast before they catch you? :sarcasm:

Call the team. They'll tell you that isn't the case anymore due to an overwhelming number of votes. RRP2 is winning by a landslide and the team has not decided if they are going to count the votes yet.

That indecision is a stark difference to the letter scolding fans. Call and ask of your vote for RRP2 will count. You'd be surprised at the response.

I don't think we should tell them how to do their jobs, you know.

Besides, where else can a discussion about the Goal Song be done? Because this song was around for 25 years, and was abruptly changed, OF COURSE there's going to be debate again and again and again.

The thing is that this particular thread can apply to both putting up song suggestions like you said *and* the debate over RRP2.

RRP2 is a legit song choice and according to two reps that I have called one of the frontrunners.

Whether management jerks fans around and disregards the votes would be another story. But I've been told by two different people that RRP2 is an "overwhelming favorite". Tell me how it's not?

At this point, whatever happens happens

We'll see in a few weeks - we've had a lot of good suggestions from our fans and whether it be RRP2 again or a new one, I'm not too worried it'll be botched up as bad as JBJ again

I don't think we should tell them how to do their jobs, you know.

Maybe you enjoy reading the same things over and over again for 2,000+ posts, but I'm pretty tired of it

Nobody is bringing anything different regarding RRP2 to the table that we haven't already discussed or heard in those 2,000 posts other than in some cases even sillier remarks

Yesterday, people posted that reps were telling them RRP2 was gone and done - even the 'bin laden is more likely to resurface' one today

We're hearing all sorts of different things so it's pretty clear not everybody knows what is going on

I'm just going to wait and see

We will know if management ignored the MASSIVE MAJORITY of votes should there be a song other than RRP2 playing after a Devils goal(hopefully) this Saturday.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say, based on what I heard(or read, actually) in the most recent posts, that RRP2 will be back.
