The players pick their teams.

And with the first overall pick, Nolan Patrick selects... The Carolina Hurricanes!

Bob McKenzie picks the selection order. Each team must be picked once per round. This will incentivize winning and club efforts to improve their own team and city's culture.

Thoughts?

Who decides the order of the players?
Never mind this is just silly...

I don't know where you hoped this would go but..... this is beyond ridiculous....lock it up.

I would have done it for the 2017 draft and ONLY the 2017 draft. We for sure could have walked away with Patrick or Glass

Why would NHL owners agree to allow a media guy to significantly determine the fate of players and thus their franchises.

This isn't as silly as the joke "Is Marleau the biggest UFA signing in history" thread. But it's still pretty silly.

I think they're about the same. By the OP's trolling logic, teams wouldn't need a scouting staff.

It'd be interesting, but it would be a terrible look when certain teams are almost always picked in the bottom 5 and damaging to the leagues overall brand.

I would think my team would benefit being in an area that produces a significant portion of NHL talent.

Also, your proposal is extremely flawed. If the players choose the teams, then NHL teams have absolutely no reason to have a professional scouting staff, and therefore Bob has no one to go to that will vote for his rankings.

Lol, Toronto would pick first every year.

The most logical solution is to state that a team who drafted in the top-5 last year can not draft top-5 this year. This would prevent teams like the 2014-2015 Sabres from disrespecting the game and it would prevent teams like Edmonton from winning the lottery in years like 2014-2015.

I see this proposed a lot, but it sort of works on the premise all drafts are equal, which we know isn't true. Two of the years the Oilers won (2011 and 2012), the top of the draft was sub-par.

Now, is this after or before he drinks his bottle of wine?

Can we please incorporate a ceremony where the first player goes through an hour long process with 5 roses, but can only hand it to one team?

And the year the Oilers got McDavid after years of mediocrity, it was on the back end of a back to back top-5 pick.

So you don't think there is a difference between Matthews and Hischier? You punish bad teams for the few tankers? No bad teams would ever become good. A team like Arizona would have no roster and no prospect pool.

Canadian teams would be stacked to the T on Offence and American teams would be stacked to the T on defence, while little cities would be in flames.
