This is what's needed to keep hockey alive and growing. In places like the UK, fans only ever want big rinks built and when one is announced with less than enough seats to host a professional team they complain. That is why the UK is in trouble as a hockey country and no youth are produced!

Good to see, I believe Belarus did/are doing something similar aren't they

We’ll all be dead by the time the UK ever becomes a hockey country even remotely.

Exactly. UK players are too scared to go abroad to develop so theres no chance anyway

so how does this compare to the old Dynamo Moscow stadiums (ice palace, megasport)?

Megasport arena is nice and modern but I believe they tend to charge quite a lot for renting the arena. It seems to be used for figure skating alot as well.

well I think a Moscow team can make it a permanent home. Doesn't Spartak share a stadium with CSKA right now......

At the moment, all the three Moscow teams are set: CSKA has CSKA Arena, Dynamo has VTB Arena, Spartak will have their old arena rebuilt in a couple of years

Looks like there is one ticket available for a game against Dinamo Riga (Sunday) at the moment.

Proggresion of hockey infrastructure in Moscow is great. I watching Spartak - Sibir game right now, and its look like full house. Whats about Moscow attendance this season, is there impact of new arenas?

Sure, CSKA and Spartak are now among the most attended teams in the League, Dynamo not so much, but they weren't at their home, surely it will go up with the VTB Arena

Someone said that they will modernize Sokolniki. There is no project yet. I personally don't see how they'll be able to fit a 12 000 seater there without a total demolition of the old building.

Yeah, I've seen it. I didn't post it here because the pictures were ridiculous.
Like saving the old roof of a 5500 arena, but claiming that it will seat 10000 people. The old arena was so small the bathrooms were outside.

Btw, Fasel said the IIHF is thinking about NHL size rinks at the all categories championships since 2022. KHL plans to move to Finnish size, but if this really happens, its only question of time, if euro leagues go to NHL size. What do you think about? IMO it will help KHL to be more competitive with NHL.

International hockey competitions may move to NHL-sized ice: IIHF president

Regarding the Sokolniki - old arena will be demolished and they will build a new one for 12k fans. See

Regarding the Fasel´s speech - what should he say in Canada? That they will go with NHL size rink. Of course, they will not. It would be a major problem in Europe because only a few arenas can change the rink size. That is also KHL´s problem. New arenas under contraction will be able to change a rink size.

Attendance nubers are really high lately.
For example CSKA are showing how a new stadium could improve attendance numbers.

Last three home games for CSKA:

    6186 specs vs. Neftekhemik
    10 615 vs. AK Bars
    9358 vs. Torpedo

Last two home games for Spartak who have a huge fanbase:

    11 019 vs. Barys
    11 111 vs. Sibir

Last two home games for Dinamo Moscow:
    10 797 vs. Avtomobilist
    10 539 vs. Riga

Dinamo Riga also have a much better numbers compared to last season.

    7853 specs vs. Neftekhemik
    10 241 vs. Dinamo Moscow
    7903 vs. Torpedo

The West needs 3-4 new teams. Teams such as Vityaz and Severstal offer nothing from a commercial point of view.
Add one team from Switzerland /Zurich is excellent choice for me/, Gemany /Berlin Bears/ and Sweden /AIK?/ and you have a hugely competitive WEST and attendance numbers will only improve.

EAST is an interesting project and most of the teams are fine. If you ask me, I still feel that a swap between Neftekhemik and a team from Japan is an interesting project.
