It took a little longer since the NFL was hoping this would go away on its own, but ultimately this was inevitable and the right move. The people who actually pour countless dollars into the league were fed up with this rif raff and exerted financial consequences on the NFL for allowing this buffoonery. The owners couldnt let this drag on another season. And nobody is forced to stand if you dont want to go sit in the locker room and there will be no fine or penalty
Now let's get on with football. This is over and done with once and for all
"Right move" is debatable. They should have headed this off a long time ago but they let it grow into a parasite that consumed them. Players should have been required to stand from the start. This whole issue was winding down and players who kneeled were ignored by the media. This new rule allows the league to fine teams, so when a player goes rogue (and one will), the player will be giving the NFL the finger and what is the team going to do? They're not going to suspend him, they'll probably pass along the fine. End result is same kneeling and MORE media attention.
The rule needs more teeth like game suspensions after multiple citations of not paying respect to the flag
Oh boo hoo hoo.
Screw the stupid flag and anthem.
best idea would be to remove the silly flag-humping ceremony before the games [because you know there will be some people now offended by players choosing to stay in the locker room or tunnel] but the league won't go down that road and risk offending the dumbest people in America
Exactly. It's laughable to suggest suspending pro football players because they don't want to take part in the military's paid propaganda/recruitment exercise that has nothing whatsoever to do with the actual sport.
Still going rogue is an extremely stupid move. And yes I agree it will happen in the beginning a few times. But it wont be something his teammates appreciate and want to answer to in the media. The NFL is giving you an out with no penalties if you dont want to stand for the anthem. If they dont take it then yes punishments will be ramped up
If this is how you feel then just go watch something else. The NFL did this for the majority of it's paying customers not salty America haters who don't watch football anyway. Go watch soccer. Nothing happens and nobody is offended
Respecting flag, county and anthem is in no way shape or form "military propaganda". The flag is one of the things that unites us all, you know "United We Stand, Divided...". It's the foundation of our country and it's not just some random concept pulled out of someone's ***. You don't have to like it here, you're free to move elsewhere
Some third degree triggering right there lol.
If you hate America and football, watch something else. What we do here is our business.
You know people are really sensitive when they go out of their way to tell you they're ignoring you, which is pretty much the opposite of ignoring you
it's really incredibly stupid to assume that anyone who disagrees with your view on this is an America hater
but you guys seem to be quickly dipping into every available fallacious argument [if you don't like it you can git out!] possible to support your position...
Ah yes calling the National Anthem a silly flag humping ceremony. Now let me backtrack....don't you assume I hate America!
Come on we weren't born yesterday
At a football game, it is. At an Olympic event, it's 100% appropriate and should be honored every time.
If my WORK plays the national anthem, that's flag humping.
Not to the vast majority of NFL fans. That's why the ruling was made today in this manner.
I respect your opinion. But it's not the way we do things here.
Your work resides within the boundaries of the United States. The playing of the anthem there is not scandalous. Or even remotely bothersome.
It isn't? They play the anthem at your job every day?
I know hundreds of footballs fans, hundreds. Nobody cares. Not one. Zero.
So you will get off your couch and stand for the anthem at home? If anyone hates America..sounds like you do with your fake ass patriotism.
Ok so the NFL will close down concessions, force people to remove their hats and get off of cellphones while the anthem is performed? That's the standard here.
Different lines of work have different parameters. What is your point? All employers should play the anthem or none at all?
You said "That's not how we do things here".
Apparently, that's not how YOU do it. You want to hold people accountable for their behavior when you yourself don't act in accordance at your job in the same manner.
