Wrinkle to veteran rule part of new CBA in AHL - Pickin' Splinters
A few details come out. Players want the schedule aligned, but owners can't find a compromise. Western skaters have an advantage in vet status with fewer games per year, western goalies aren't as happy as they face a lot more pucks in practice vs a game. No one likes all the bus trips.
Owners wanted players to pay for health insurance, but players didn't go for it.
They did adjust the vet rule so you can't be a vet if you aren't 25 years old in July, regardless of games played.
The schedule was adjusted to eliminate more 3 in 3 weekends - meaning more weeknight games. Maybe a couple more years of that and the eastern teams will agree to reduce the number of games, since weeknights aren't as profitable.
