Started 'Why did you kill me?' and was actually looking forward to it after seeing the trailer but geez, the whole family is so shady/involved with drugs and what have you, and it doesn't seem to be too shocking that they got their sister killed.. mind you, I'm only 30 minutes in but I don't think this is that big of a mystery.

New Netflix movie Stoaway looks pretty good, getting decent reviews as well. Has some decent actors in it with Anna Kendrick and Daniel Dae Kim.

Actually doesn't appear the family was really involved, they are still pretty shady though. lol

Thoughts on The Crown? I haven't had Netflix in a few years but I'm thinking of getting it for a month mainly to watch The Crown as it looks like something I'd be able to get into and I'm a Jared Harris fanboy.

If you're watching just for Jared Harris you'll be disappointed because he plays King George VI and the show is about Queen Elizabeth II so he's only in it as a minor character at the very beginning

I honestly didn't think I would like it but did. Obviously not a lot of action but a lot of drama. The score, the acting, the writing, and the production are all first rate.

Incredible series. I don't think I've ever seen a TV/Streaming series with better production value, and the acting, pacing, drama, tension, and historical call-backs are all top notch. There are a handful of episodes that I would rate as among the absolute highest quality and I don't think there has been a single bad episode yet.

Keep in mind I had NO interest in this show until my fiancee put on an episode from season 3 that I happened to watch with her. After it finished she decided to start over from the beginning so we could watch together. Prior to the show I had no interest in the Royal Family, but this show completely pulled me in.

Season 3 is incredible - the two Wales episode are just fantastic. The Aberfan one is haunting and beautiful based on a real life tragedy, and the boarding school episode really makes you feel like you're in the late 60s (which, mind you, was several decades before I was born).

Highly recommended.

Anyone else tried Borgen? I'm 5 episodes in and am really digging the whole thing. It's a fictional show about politics in Denmark and the first female prime minster in that country.

Watched the first ep yesterday, thought it was pretty good, didn't expect to like it as much as I did.
I was half paying attention last night as I was falling asleep so gonna rewatch it today.

Production and acting seems solid. But it does that thing I hate with new fantasy/Sci fi IPs where characters blurt out a bunch of names of things and places in a wholly original world without much explanation for what the thing is or why the place is important. A pilot for a show with an entirely new world like this needs to do a solid enough job at world building to keep people hooked. Not hope they will be long enough to figure everything out eventually. Game of Thrones did this masterfully and took its time to continue to build its world organically without much of characters basically pointing at the audience with exposition. So, bad marks for diving head first in the story without breaths taken for world building but I'm intrigued enough to give the season a shot.

One other thing was the element bending magic akin to ATLA which has me very curious to see how effects like that can be handled these days with a live action ATLA series on the way. Bending looked terrible in the Shyamalan disaster of an adaptation.

I watched the Cecil Hotel. What's there to say? I thought it was comedy at one point. The documentary could have been easily done in 90 minutes or max two hours. They spent way too much time on those moronic "Conspiracy Youtubers". I love how those idiots thought they were experts and knew more than Law Enforcement and Doctors because they watched a few episodes of CSI and Law & Order. I would have taken 2 by 4s to all of their heads, especially at that creepy guy who went to her grave because he needs "closure". Get the f*** out of here! You need meds and a Job! This is what happens when you have too much time on your hands, get a job!

I think that show might deserve it's own thread. It seems to have a huge following based on how many reactions to the episodes Youtube keeps recommending me.

My daughter and I binged our way through it over the weekend. It was pretty good. I assume the Russian backdrop comes from the book, but it is a little distracting. The picture is also very dark and difficult to see at times. Overall it reminded me a little bit of His Dark Materials on HBO Max (which I think I liked better).

Yeah I got to episode 7 and tapped out. Couldn't focus on it anymore. In spite of rising somewhat above typical YA trappings and cheap storytelling, the writing really doesn't service a solid premise and universe and the longer the show goes the less compelling it became. Production value stays strong throughout but I just lost interest the more I pressed on.

My SO put me through that trash Shannarah Chronicles and this isn't as bad but it's not far off. Any hope I had that the live action Avatar series might be decent based on this is dead.

I watched it the other night and really liked it. I definitely recommend it to those who are big on sci-fi, especially sci-fi that tries to get the science right (like The Expanse), and don't need a lot of action or special effects to hold their attention. Canadians should note that it's on Prime Video for them.

I reviewed it here: Movies: - Last Movie You Watched and Rate It | Mid-Spring Edition. Happy Beltane!

I finished the first season on Tuesday and I can't wait for season 2. It kept getting better with each episode and everything they threw at you in the first episode became clearer. Jessie Mei Li is a revelation. Perfect casting. The Crows are just best thing ever, especially Jesper.

Watched Selena Part 2, not any better than Part 1. It's the acting that really gets me. Very bad. Particularly from the actor playing Selena's brother. The ending, obviously, very sad.

This looks pretty good (at least it's a good concept for a plot), and I like Anna Kendrick. But something about her being an astronaut seems kind of ludicrous. I can't even put my finger on why. It's like casting Andy Samberg in that role. It's not about the acting, just a weird fit between the real person and the character.

If it helps any, she plays the role pretty seriously, not so much like her quirky real-life self. Also, she plays a medical researcher, so she's more of a specialist than an astronaut, like the teachers that we sent up on the Space Shuttle. I got the impression that the commander (Toni Collette's character) pretty much operates the ship by herself and the two researchers mostly stick to research. Add to that that it's a private, SpaceX-like mission set decades into the future, after dozens and dozens of flights to Mars, to the point where it's routine, and you might imagine that the qualifications of the crew might not be quite so high any more. Given all of that, I didn't feel that she seemed that out of place, though I did have the same concern about the casting before I watched it.

This made me LOL. On point.

But it's true; you have these f***ing idiots walking into the Hotel thinking they are Detective Benson and Stabler. "Move over, cops. we are here to solve the case!" All that was missing was Detective Chloe, Detective Douche and Lucifer to complete the Power Rangers.

These people wouldn't have time to cosplay Batman and Robin if they had jobs.

Just finished both seasons of Mindhunter. What a great show, Holt McCallany was outstanding. Still not really understanding both endings, almost somewhat of a let down from such a good buildup.

Eh, I just finished it, to be honest I thought it was pretty bad. Seemed like it dragged on way too long and there wasn't much of any story going on. I love me a good sci-fi flick, but this just didn't do it for me. I thought Anna Kendrick did a great job though.
