Hasn't there already been a bit of friction between the CBJ and Gilbert? Not sure referencing "his huge bag of money" is the best way to promote any cooperation.

Not Arace's brightest effort.

I disagree, and like the idea in principle for two reasons:

1) It is outside the box thinking, and these days we need some of that.

2) It potentially expand the fanbase.

In practice, it would require some refinement.

1) not everything out of the box is worth thinking about.

2) How many regular season games have the Tribe, Cavs, and Browns played in Columbus? Yet they have huge fan bases here. It takes time. We want Cleveland money coming here, not sitting at home waiting to have the game delivered to their doorstep.

There are too many people around the league who wonder why the team is not in Cleveland, anyway. Part of the import of NHL in Columbus is to help differentiate us from Cleveland and establish Columbus as a major league city on it's own. Splitting the regular season with them, no matter how few dates they're given, defeats that purpose.

You're just hoping this is the first step toward the CBJ opening the season in the Islands!

Great point. If the CBJ are moving 4 games to the Q, why would anyone in Cleveland make the road-trip to the Nat to see the Jackets. Just wait to see the games right around the corner. You could even extend that 50 miles or so out from Cleveland. A whole lot of folks that make the trip to the Nat, might go to the Q instead to spend their money.

If the Browns were to play a game at the Shoe, I would not go to Cleveland to watch them play.

Throw our AAA affiliate into Cleveland or Cinci, and move a few pre-season games to both cities, but no way I want regular season games moved.

Hopefully this proposal has nothing involving a public vote on a future ballot. I'm sure it would fail even though I would vote for it.

Clay Hall from WSYX CH. 6 tweets:
The Convention and Facilities Authority expected to announce
resolution of Jackets lease issues this afternoon. No comment
from CBJ now

Note the use of the word "resolution." The Dispatch merely used the word "proposal."

@Aportzline Is this a done deal or just a proposal? / This is a proposal to city and county officials, not a solution.

It would fail in a good economy (as the original Arena issue did). It would be DOA in times like these.

"“After completing nearly two years of in-depth analysis and due-diligence, we are ready to make our recommendations to city and county officials for a financial plan built on a public and private partnership,” Rosenberger said in a statement this afternoon. "

Edit: And major hillbilly alert on the comments, complete with threats towards city officials.

As long as it doesn't increase the cost of a beer, the rioting should be minimal.

If we're talking one dime that doesn't come from the casino or from Nationwide, it has ZERO chance.

And here we go again...

Reading the comments from the link Sam provide, half these tools don't even understand the issue(s). If you aren't even going to bother to research the issue (even on a basic level), your opinion means nothing to me.

Then perhaps the city doesn't deserve the team. Maybe it should be moved to one where the taxpayers are willing to pay for it.

Sadly, this is what I'm afraid of. Maybe Columbus is NOT a major league city and someday we'll be without BOTH the Crew and the NHL. Even though a majority of citizens think that, we're fortunate the city leaders don't believe it.

Love the people who think Nationwide (the owner of the arena and property) is in need of the help, as if they are the owner of the Blue Jackets.

The Blue Jackets' National Hockey League franchise has agreed in principle to remain in Columbus after a deal was reached between the city, state and Franklin County to buy Nationwide Arena, 10TV News reported Wednesday.

? That's written like it's a done deal. I thought this was just a proposal.

It's a shame that, in a democracy, those fools get the same number of votes as the people who've educated themselves on the issues.

And that's what frustrates me so much. I pay extra taxes so that Cleveland can have the Browns, Indians and Cavs, and as an Ohio resident I pay state taxes, some of which go to the Ohio State University.

Columbus sports fans get to enjoy all of those, and the contributions of those in Hamilton County which lets stations like 97.1 talk about the Reds and Bengals.

I hate to get political, but talk about living in a socialist utopia. Get everybody else to pay for your entertainment, then balk at the concept of contributing anything back to the rest of the state...

I've long wanted to move to Columbus, it's no secret. But the noise that the vocal minority makes really frustrates me.

(Btw, please don't try the "But the Buckeyes athletic department is profitable and doesn't accept tax money" argument that somebody tried on Twitter. It's hard to have an athletic department without a school and tOSU is a land grant university, it wouldn't exist without public funds...)

You're making an incorrect assumption that everybody in Columbus is an unemployed ideologue who trolls Dispatch.com

If the deal is sensible, the majority will support it. 25-50 ******** on dispatch.com isn't a very good sample.
