We never said we'd be good

Which is the point.

These guys were all available at somepoint. The Avs passed on them or couldnt offer a trade because of cap issues.

Leddy
Boychuvk
Orpik
Niskanen

Leapold was available. But cap issues again made it impossible.

That is pretty awful mismanagement.

The AVS have a high end #2 and trash.

And they have to replace Hejda.

Once Iginla starts heating up in the 2nd half, that should pad MacKinnon's stats a bit.

You can't really look at Iginla's stats during the 1st half, and use that to project his totals. He always scores way more than he's originally on pace for.

Can we throw out putting his name next to Crosby now? And the same thing with generational?

He'll still be a helluva player, but he win't separate himself from the rest of the NHL...

(McDavid is the only one with a chance, unless he dies in Edmonton...)

"tendentions" is a big word for an HF poster. Flowery language and overall literacy will not be tolerated on this site sir. Please refrain from sounding intelligent. Didn't a global moderator warn you about this kind of thing? Wow.

I think they offered Orpik about the same as Washington, but he chose Washington. IMO that would have been mistake anyway, so Im happy he chose Washington. That contract will be ugly very soon.

I have no idea If Boychuk would ever come back to Colorado. I doubt he enjoyed his time with Colorado.

Leopold would be marginal help at best. Not much difference.

Niskanen, I think Avalanche were after him as well.

They certainly tried to fix defense, but it didn't work out and everyone knows how hard it's to trade for one, especially when you don't have that much assets, which you could sell..

I'm curious as to who you think is the high end #2. No matterm who you think it is you are leaving 1 really solid Dman out. EJ and Barrie are both very good dmen. After that it becomes pretty rough although Redmond has been pretty good

What are you talking about? The Avs were in on Orpik, and if they got him, people on here probably would have laughed at them. They were in on Niskanen, but bowed out early because of price. Friedman has reported they have been in on every defenseman that's been available in trade, but do you really think Chicago would have dealt Leddy in the division? The cap hasn't really held them back from doing anything.

Leddy wasn't getting traded in division. Orpik got ridiculous money and term. Glad we got outbid. Boychuck and Niskanen are RHD which we already have. Leopoldo was garbage when he played for Colorado several years ago. Has he broken out since then? If not, it's just more garbage.

We certainly need help on defense but the answer isn't just throwing money at any defender that happens to hit the market. You've got to find the right fit.

EJ is a solid, not great, #1. He's been very good this year, one of the few bright spots. Barrie is looking to be a very good #3. I'm not sure which is a #2 and which is trash, but I'd say you're dead wrong there.

The avs should have never signed Iginla, Stuart, and Briere.

At least Danny is only one year.

But having 9 million tied up between Stuart and Iginla for two more seasons after this one is really awful.

Right now the avs project at 60 million salary to start next season.

It could take them 3-4 years to fully address the defense.

That is not good.
Or it could take one year? They have the same problem as every team that isn't one of the few elite. Including St Louis.

19 points in 29 games isn't even that bad.. Don't scratch him. That would destroy his confidence, and confidence is a massive thing for a young player. Nail Yakupov looks like hes gonna bust after having a solid rookie season because of his lack of confidence.

It still doesn't change the realty of the situation.

Management didn't get it done.

Then went out and made multiple useless moves.

Reasons or excuses. Same difference.

The blues main concern is winning a playoff series.

The avs is where they pick in the lottery.

It would be ridiculously stupid for a team this young to make a drastic short term move. It'll suck if/when we don't make the playoffs this year, but we weren't going to win the cup regardless of what moves we made.
