The Flyers have a possible PK rotation of Couturier-Atkinson / Hayes-Laughton / Farabee-Lindblom-Giroux. They are bursting at the seams with able PKers.

So, this is a good time to remind everyone: as soon as Thompson came to the Flyers the previous season, he LED all forwards on the team in average PK ice time — regular season and penalty kill. That is just nauseating to think about, if they want him as starting 4C. He was used as the 4th PKer for Winnipeg this season, and predictably he was still their worst in chance suppression. Because he simply cannot skate in this age of high pressure PKing. That was at age 35…..hello, age 37!

And he also had the worst PK stats on the team to boot! Yipee!!

Need to let the new wonder twins, Kev & Cam, roll together on the PK. Should be good for at least one shorthanded breakaway each game. ;)

I have a question concerning all this "great locker room guy" stuff. Can't remember who said it, but he was talking about Tim Tebow and the Jags. Paraphrasing here, but basically he said that this whole leadership thing is way overblown. Like nobody on the team would give a shit about what the third string tight end would have to say. You can't just talk it, you gotta be it too.

Wouldn't this also apply to Thompson? Like why should players listen to him when they see him practice and play everyday? Yeah, sure, I'll listen to the guy who's clearly not an NHL calibre player, why not?

Or are football and hockey two different beasts in this regard?

I think there's a reason why the best leaders in any sport tend to also be very very good players as well.

No bad player is going to make up for their deficiencies and lead the charge to victory on the power of invigorating speeches alone.

In truth, "leadership" is a trait that hockey teams and media push to compliment a player who has little else worth complimenting. It's vague, can't be disproven easily, and sounds good for everyone involved.

Anaheim's rebuilding. I'm sure the Flyers could bring back Grant cheap; might only cost a 1st rounder. :sarcasm:

Weren’t you supposed to be on break for the summer? Leaving us with only @Beef Invictus as an active mod, wherein we all descend into feral savagery and pray to the Lord of the Malt Vinegar?

Simple thought exercise. Flyers PK is utter shit. Is it because of…

1. Couturier missing time.
2. Thompson missing time.
3. Ellis missing time.
4. Hayes missing time.
5. It doesn’t matter. Blame Fletcher.

Nothing matters unless Hextall did it, or if it pertains to Jake or Ghost. Otherwise, its just a nothing burger.
