Bit of a head-scratcher so far on D... Ellis has not ever been better than Ekholm... and it's not like apples to oranges across different teams... they are complete contemporaries, and Ekholm is head and shoulders better than Ellis.

Maybe not head and shoulders but without a doubt(in my mind), Ekholm is the most underrated player the Preds have ever had. He is flat out good.

It's more about LHD and how f***ing many of them have been great on the Preds. Is Ekholm better than Josi? Timonen? Suter? Ellis is a RHD and fills a depth chart need.

I didn’t know this was a LHD/RHD survey. I also didn’t compare him to Josi, Timonen or Suter. I just said he was underrated and an excellent Dman. And he is.

Uggg, just closed the tab on a length Ellis vs Ekholm post. To summarize, saying Ellis has never been better than Ekholm is incorrect and saying that it's not even close is hyperbole. Ellis has a better TOI, PPG, +/- and history as a team leader.

It's a close comparison and one I struggled with but ended up on the Ellis side, it's okay if other posters end up on the Ekholm side. But it's not okay to act like Ekholm is some clearly superior player to Ellis.

It's not ok? I mean, I'm ok with you being totally wrong. Ekholm is some clearly superior player to Ellis. Not the least bit sorry if that offends you. :)

I think he was definitely an important part of those early teams, he personified Predator hockey back then. I think I'd have him over someone like Hornqvist or Smith in his prime.
Because the budget was limited and the selection was small. Smith is way better offensively than Walker. Walker had hands of stone and really didn't generate much on his own.

I kind of build in a bumper for some of those early guys. They certainly weren't getting to play with the level of talent we currently have night in and night out.

The vote for the #6 defenseman ended in a tie between Ellis and Ekholm so I'll use my vote as the tiebreaker.
