Show Me What You Got!
Actually, the best thing about him in the lineup (excluding the two goals, since he could certainly go another 100 games before he scores again) is that the coach doesn't try to put him in situations where he is bound to fail. Last night, even in a 5-0 game, he played just over 6 minutes. When Gionta is in, he has average about 11:30 of ice time per game, including PK time. With Cam in (in lieu of Gionta), that's an extra 5-6 minutes/game that can be allotted to others (including some important PK time).
I am not suggesting that Cam is a better player than ... well ... almost anyone, but he is what he is and (when used) is used correctly. Gionta is what he is and gets put out there against the other team's top line, kills penalties, etc.
This is a good point. Pete had been using Cam just right. Keeping his minutes down and using him situationally and it's working. Brings the energy and gets the hell out of there.
No one suddenly thinks cam is some good hockey player now but it's undeniable he has added some great energy and fire back into the team. Credit where credit is due.
