Canada steamrollered its way through the medal round (outscoring the opposition 13-4) but only Nash was recognized individually.

The tournament MVP is: Rick Nash (CAN)

The IIHF Directorate announced its winners for the 2007 World Championship.
BEST GOALIE--Kari Lehtonen (FIN)
BEST DEFENSEMAN--Andrei Markov (RUS)
BEST FORWARD--Alexei Morozov (RUS)

The media All-Star Team was also announced:
Goal: Kari Lehtonen (FIN)
Defense: Petteri Nummelin (FIN), Andrei Markov (RUS)
Forward: Alexei Morozov (RUS), Evgeni Malkin (RUS), Rick Nash (CAN)

BTW Canada now owns four of the five major world titles--World champions, World Junior champions, World Women's, and Olympic women's.

Doan could have easily replaced one of these two... he was a force all tournament and deserved an all-star selection.

Lehtonen all-star goalie? The guy sucked besides the Russia game

Doan should have been on the all star team. It was a travesty. In fact I would have put all Doan, Nash, and Lombardi as the 3 all star forwards. The 3 of them really came together late in the tournament and were incredible. The later games are the most important ones, not the earlier games.

Lehtonen let one softie against Sweden, but played otherwise well.

Nummelin is overrated due to his scoring. He was not so good in the own end. Tuomo Ruutu should have been in the All Star as well as Shane Doan.

Boy, you sure hit the nail on the head regarding Nash's position on the team pre-tournament didn't you?

Not only did he deserve an all star selection, he deserved the MVP.

He was the leader of a team that followed him to the Gold Medal. When controversy surrounded this team, and could have sank thm, he raised his play, put his teammates on his back, and powered his way through.

The selection of MVP was a no brainer. Unfortunately, who ever picked it, showed they didn't have a clue.

Second year that Nash has benefited from his linemates, and got accolades he couldn't earn on his own.

Sad, just sad.

Are you kidding me? You think Nash is really that bad? I'm not going to take anything away from Doan but give credit where credit is due. Nash has the ability to take over games and at 22 years old he did it for Canada. Doan should have been an all-star and probably an argument for MVP but implying that Nash is an also ran is rediculous.

I'm led to ask. Did you watch the tournament at all? Nash was flat out awesome. Despite not having the best luck he still put up the points, had he caught some lucky breaks I don't doubt that he could have led the tournament in scoring far and easy. The guy played great, seriously don't let personal biases effect your logic.

He's worn the Canadian flag on his chest 4 times, and this is the first time he didn't fail. Throw in his regular season play over the last 6 years, and I still say he has a hell of a lot to prove before he should be given another shot on the A squad.

Some of you need to realize the WHC is hardly a talent filled tourney. Do any of you think the MVP of the AHL should be given a spot on the Olympic team? Well, giving the WHC MVP, who didn't even deserve it, a free pass onto the team is pretty stupid too.

That says more about his competition than his own performance.

There wasn't a lot of great competition, but IMO he deserved the goalie of the tournament award.

His calm play against USA and Russia was amazing.

The award could also have gone to Jeremenko. Honorable mention to Jonas Hiller and Cam Ward.
