Paywall. The Athletic looks at corporate (and individual) misdeeds that pushed for a naming change or challenge.

...sports often reflect society, particularly politics. And sharp lines are being drawn these days through American society, culture and politics.

Awareness of the fraught political age – amid social movements such as #MeToo and the so-called “cancel culture” as the nation reconsiders what is acceptable — has emerged as a critical consideration for one of the sports industry’s most high-profile financial aspects: naming rights.

Teams don’t want to end up with a stadium or arena named for a company, brand or person that fans and pundits will trash or protest because of controversy.
...
SportsBusiness Journal last year reported that 45 major-league stadiums had corporate names when the magazine debuted in 1998, and it’s now up to 114 deals.

Article also lists a number of (new-ish) naming right values around North America

* Alligiant (airlines) stadium $25m/year cash/other (guessing they might be the charter airline) LV NFL
* American Airlines plaza $90m over ten years - NFL LA
* SoFi (financial) stadium $400m over twenty years - NFL LA (not yet announced)
* LA Coliseum controversy resulted in “United Airlines Field at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum”. $69m over sixteen years NCAA USC
* T-Mobile Park $87.5m over 25 years MLB Seattle
* Scotiabank arena $639m over 20 years NHL/NBA Toronto
* Citi Field $400m through 2028 MLB Mets
* Chase Center $300m over 20 years NBA Warriors
* MetLife Stadium $400m (no duration listed) NFL Giants/Jets

And lists a number of controversies (Enron, murder and other issues) that ended naming rights.

Still, nice to have a decent list of naming rights $$s
