Keep in mind that Great Britain consists of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. So all are fair game.

I listen to almost nothing but British rock, though more modern stuff. Also I go based on album consistency over career so not gonna rank a band as one of the best if they lack multiple good albums and a decent discography (eg: Joy Division or Talk Talk who only made 2 good albums at the end of their career).

I'll go with this:

1. Radiohead
2. Keane
3. Idlewild
4. XTC
5. Blur
6. Arctic Monkeys
7. Echo & The Bunnymen
8. Porcupine Tree
9. Cocteau Twins
Tied for 10. The Sundays/Puressence

No order.

Eno and friends ( :p: ) - He deserves genius status
Joy Division
Cocteau Twins
My Bloody Valentine
The Cure

Thought of Talk Talk but find their early work weak.
Thought of The Beatles but McCartney as a performer is the plague.

I like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd but they're certainly not favorites.
I strongly dislike The Rolling Stones outside of the odd songs. Paint it, Black is the only one I listen to with any consistence.
New Order deserves an honorable mention.

These top Canadian or American or British bands posts really show the age of this board lol.
More than one generation has had significant portions eventually turn toward the “classics”. People who think the Beatles for example were the best range from 8o+ years old to 10 years old.

That's pretty presumptuous. How can you make that determination if you don't know people's age? When you see nothing but 60s bands, do you just assume that the poster is 70 years old?

I think an overwhelming majority of the best music came between 1955 and 1980, and I'm 30 (so the best came well before I was born, IMO).
