Niedermayer? holy wow, someone needs to start watching devil games more closely, Nied's is a very solid player but no where near that range

a lot of the guys you named are just young and good now, that doesn't mean all will improve, not everyone has a super high ceiling, Brewer, Morris, and Skoula certainly don't.

Blake
Pronger
Bouwmeester
Pitkanen
Klesla
Markov
Redden
Zubov
Jovanovski
Lidstrom

Trying to go off the top of my head of who I think will be the top 10:
Chara
Gonchar
Pronger
Jovo
Redden
J-bo
Lidstrom
Brewer
Hamrlik
Hatcher

I'll add, prime age for defensman is later than the other positions. Their prime is usually the 32-26 age range. Saying that, and having J-Bo on this list is quite a huge compliment from me. And I think Chara may be the most underrated (hate to use that word)player in the league. I'm not a Sens fan, but this guy is awsome, and if the Sens offered Chara to the Oilers(Who are my team) for Brewer, I'd be very upset if they didn't take it.

My new list after seeing some names I forgot...

1. Pronger (assuming he fully recovers)
2. Neidermayer
3. Redden
4. Jovanovski
5. Kaberle
6. Hamrlik
7. Gonchar
8. Chara
9. Pitkanen
10. Mara

HM: Mattias Ohlund

This is my stance on Bouwmeester and Neidermayer who I consider to be very similar players except for Bouwmeester's obvious size advantage. Neidermayer hasn't reached his peak yet IMO (and believe me it hurts to say that as a Flyers fan) and when he does in a year or 2 he will be a Norris Candidate. Bouwmeester will follow a similar career and won't be a serious Norris candidate until his 30's but this is just my opinion.

1. .

It may not look like it now, but I would put Mike Komisarek on any top 10 list 5 years from now. He has more upside than Boumeester. It will just take Komo a bit longer because he is so big and got a late start in the game.

No way does he have more upside then Bouwmeester. There is only one young defenseman who you could even argue that has more upside then him, he's wearing a Flyers jersey.

No one mentioned Dion Phaneuf in the prospect department? :dunno:

He could have made the Flames out of camp ahead of Commodore, Montador, and Wallin but Sutter wisely elected to send him back to Red Deer where he has 7 goals, 7 assists, and +5 in 15 games so far (leading the team in goals, points, and +/-). :teach:

For comparison's sake, Coburn has 2 goals, 3 assists, and is a team worst -6 in 6 games. Ryan Suter has no points in three games.

It's 5 years from now .. almost everyone who don't have at least 1 season in the NHL under their belt don't stand a chance . ( maybe Pitkanen on the strong Flyers if he see decent ice time (at least 20mins) )

5 years is very far from now, but Pitkanen, Jay Bouwmeester and Wade Redden would be in the top 5.

Andrei Markov can make a big suprise...

LOL.. some laughable lists... and that's an understatement. Chara #1? Redden and Chara #1 and #2? LOL

If we're assuming Pronger stays healthy, there's no question he's #1.

Are you serious? Did you watch the playoffs last year? Nieds is as close as you come to being a complete dman with the exception of Lidstrom IMO.

Orpik played 20 minutes last night, anything can happen.

If I was picking a Penguin, I would say Noah Welch.

I don't like making these types of lists, a lot can happen in five years. Will we even have an NHL then?

I think Redden will be number one though.

No particular order

Scott Niedermayer - people will finally notice him
Jay Bouwmeester - has all the tools
Eric Brewer - will it be in EDM though?
Chris Pronger - still can dominate
Barret Jackman - learning from Pronger and MacInnis
Robyn Regehr - he improves every year
Derek Morris - watching Blake will make him better
Rotislav Klesla - I think he'll be great once CBJ improves
Jiri Fischer - only see great things from him
Tomas Kaberle - he is so smart just need to build around him
Ed Jovanovski - might have a Norris by then

notables
Sergei Gonchar - will still be scoring 20 goals
Nick Boynton - definantly improving
Jordan Leopold - could be offensive machine
Wade Redden - you know what you're gonna get every night
Joni Pitkanen - has great potential. lets see how he does first
