JMCx4, THANKS for all the updates and posts (and in the USHL thread)!!! They are very much appreciated!!! Interesting times and anxious to see how these leagues cope with the season.
Thanks for the kind words, but my motives are as selfish as they are communal. Without being able to attend the games semi-regularly, I need to feed my hockey head by reading about them. It's all part of COVID Coping. :silly:

A quick look at the NAHL standings ...
  • Central Division: The Aberdeen Wings are tearing it up with their 14-0-0-0-0 record & a GF/GA differential of a mind-boggling +54. The Minot Minotauros are 11 points back (7-3-2-1-1), with the remaining four teams just trying to keep the puck outta their own nets.
  • East Division: The Top 4 have been strong, with the 3rd year Maryland Black Bears (8-4-1-1-1, and a noteworthy 322 PIMs so far) leading by a single standing point over the Johnstown Tomahawks (7-3-2-1-1). Maine & New Jersey are just a few points back.
  • Midwest Division: Suffering from a late start & scheduling/re-scheduling challenges. The Janesville Jets lead the division with a 4-1-1-0-1 record, with the Kenai River Brown Bears (relocated from Alaska to Minnesota) at 3-1-0-0-0 just 3 points back. Hard to call the rest of the pack "also rans" at this point, with so few games played.
  • South Division: The LS Brahmas have continued last season's pace, with their 11-3-0-0-1 start putting them 9 points up on the 2nd place Shreveport Mudbugs (6-1-1-0-0). The newcomer to the division is Wichita Falls (the Warriors), who are one game under .500 (3-4-0-2-1). And with nothing but best wishes for @The Ice Hockey Dude ... the sophomore New Mexico Ice Wolves bring up the rear with a 2-6-1-0-0 record so far.

NAHL announces extension of 2020-21 season

DECEMBER 23, 2020

The North American Hockey League (NAHL) has announced that its Board of Governors has voted to extend the 2020-21 season.

The extension was approved for three primary reasons. First, with the NCAA Division I recruiting ... period being extended to April 15th, the extension of the season will give NAHL players more time to be scouted and seen by NCAA coaches and scouts. Second, the extension allows players more time to practice, play, and develop due to schedule interruptions caused by Covid-19. Lastly, an extension gives the fans in NAHL communities a chance to support their teams in what will hopefully be a more accommodating climate and atmosphere.

As a result, the ongoing 2020-21 regular season will now end on Sunday, May 16th. The opening round of the 2021 Robertson Cup Playoffs will take place from May 20-30 with the best of 5 Division Semi-Finals. ...

NORTH AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE: Holiday gives players a chance to head home

By Michael Bauer ...
Posted 4 days ago

This past week, most players for the Odessa Jackalopes were able to go home and see their families for the first time in months.

The bye-week in the schedule this year allows the players to spend the holidays with their friends and family members before reporting back to resume the season against Shreveport on Dec. 31. ...

For some members of the Jackalopes, being away from home during a pandemic might not seem easy but at the same time, they’re happy to still be able to play hockey and have a season.

“During these times, it’s special that we’re able to play because we’re seeing a bunch of other teams that are sitting on the sidelines right now because of their current situation with the coronavirus,” Alex Konovalov said. “But at the junior hockey level, it’s cool how you have guys from all over North America and Europe come together to try and achieve a goal and I’m fortunate enough to make some new friends and new memories.” ...

A look at the NAHL Division Standings and races therein as January slides forward ...
  • Central Division: The Aberdeen Wings are on fire with a 17-1-0-0 record and a 60-goal differential against opponents (85 for & 25 against). The Wings' 34 points puts them 15 ahead of the second place Minot Minotauros (8-7-2-1 with 1 OT win), who have the Bismarck Bobcats (8-10-0-2 with 1 OT victory) a point behind them. The Central so far is a division of 1 Have & 5 Have-Nots.
  • East Division: The Maine Nordiques (13-6-1-0 with 2 OT wins) hold a 3-point lead over the Johnstown Tomahawks (10-3-2-1 with 2 OT wins and outscoring opponents 64-42), with the Maryland Black Bears two points further back in 3rd place (9-5-2-1 with a single OT victory). The last place Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks actually have the highest Win% in the East (0.833), but they've only played 6 games so far (5-1-0-0 with 1 OT win).
  • Midwest Division: Started late, and nowhere near catching up in Games Played with the rest of the NAHL divisions (I'm not sure they ever will). The Janesville Jets are in 1st place with 12 points in 11 games, while the two "Alaska teams" (Kenai River Brown Bears & Fairbanks Ice Dogs still playing home games in Minnesota) are tied with 8 points (7 & 9 games played, respectively). Not much more to go on; it's gonna be a rough season for these teams across the board.
  • South Division: The 1st place Lone Star Brahmas (16-6-1-0 with 1 OT win) have a 5-point lead over a strong 2nd place Shreveport Mudbugs team (13-2-1-1 with 3 OT victories). The Bottom 4 teams are within a six-point range of each other.

The NAHL's Minnesota Wilderness finally kicked off their (2020-)2021 home season on Sunday night, earning a 4-3 shootout win against the visiting Austin Bruins. The Wilderness have played just 6 games so far (2-3-0-1 with 1 OT win), with a pause between November 20th & January 15th due to Minnesota's state pandemic restrictions. I'll bet it feels mighty good to be back home for the team & their fans. :towel:

A month-end review of the NAHL's top teams as Groundhog Day approaches (again) :boredom: ...
  • Central Division: The Aberdeen Wings remain afire with a 22-1-0-0 record, giving them 44 points to top the League. They have built an astronomical 108 GF-to-26 GA differential against opponents, while stretching their Division lead to 15 points over the 2nd place also-ran Bismarck Bobcats (29 points, 13-10-0-3 with 1 OT Win). Aberdeen's PP% is a more Earth-bound 27.7%, but their PK efficiency makes up for it @ 94.6%. The Wings' #1 goaltender is Jake Sibell, with an unbeaten record (19-0-0 incl. 8 shutouts, 1.01 GAA, SV% = 0.960). They also have three of the Top 10 Scorers in the NAHL this season: forwards Payton Matsui & Clayton Cosentino (tied for 3rd @ 32 pts); and fellow forward Natan Vertes (14G & 24 pts.). The Aberdeen juggernaut skates on.
  • East Division: The Johnstown Tomahawks (16-4-2-1 with 2 OT Wins for 35 pts.) have climbed past the Maine Nordiques (16-9-1-0 with 3 OT Wins for 33 pts.). Johnstown is on a 6-game winning streak, and have victories in 9 of their last 10 games. They ice 3 of the Top 10 Scorers: Jay Ahern (who leads the League with 17 goals); John Gelatt (2nd with 16 goals); and Brendan Clark (second in assists with 24). The Tomahawks goalie Sam Evola is 3rd in the rankings with a 2.05 GAA, carrying a 10-2-1-1 record & a 0.922 SV%.
  • Midwest Division: This Division continues to lag in games played, but the Kenai River Brown Bears (still playing home games in Minnesota until at least the end of February) have risen to the top with their 10-6-0-0 record to take a lead of 2 points over the Janesville Jets (8-6-2-0 with 1 OT Win). The Brown Bears are 7-3-0-0 in their last 10 games, and hold a 90.4% PK efficiency - the latter which is particularly important because they lead the Midwest teams in PIM with 293.
  • South Division: The Lone Star Brahmas (20-8-1-0 with 1 OT Win for 41 pts.) and the Shreveport Mudbugs (17-5-2-1 with 3 OT victories for 37 pts.) continue to outpace the rest of their Division opponents. Lone Star forward Andrew DeCarlo leads the League in scoring in his 3rd season with the Brahmas (13G-23A=36 pts. in 29 games). His fellow forward Nicholas Niemo is 7th in scoring (10G-19A=29 pts. in 29GP). Their tandem teammates in goal, Rico DiMatteo and Graham Burke, each have Top 10 numbers.

SNSB Spotlight: Shreveport Mudbugs goaltender Cole Hudson overcomes legal blindness on path to NAHL success

by: John Sartori
Posted: Feb 21, 2021 / 11:22 PM CST / Updated: Feb 21, 2021 / 11:23 PM CST

SHREVEPORT, La (KMSS/KTAL) – It’s a story that not even Hollywood could write.

When you look into the eyes of Shreveport Mudbugs goaltender Cole Hudson, there’s a lot of things you don’t see. You don’t see the injuries, dedication, and commitment it’s taken Hudson to get to the North American Hockey League.

The thing that’s easiest to overlook, the fact Hudson is legally blind. ...

Overcoming such a tall hurdle physically would be enough to make Hudson’s story one of inspiration, but it’s what the New York native has had to go through in the world of Junior Hockey which makes his story all the more impressive.

“A guy that’s been told no from 10-12 teams, probably discouraged him at times, probably made him think he’d have to quit hockey at some point,” said Mudbugs Broadcaster Chet Yoder. “But he kept persevering and kept battling.” ...
