We are in a Galchenyuk-like scenario (lower potential than Chucky), player with high offensive potential but inconsistent defesnively. Was over a ppg in the Ahl last year. He is a RW with talent to be a top sixer but may need a change of scenery.

What would you be willing to offer for Scherbak, looking for picks or lhd prospects.

You know...
What would be the point of trading him for picks (unless mad over payment that wont happen).

Realistically the only way I see him being moved is in a package deal (no idea what/who for) or straight up for a LHD of similar value/age/potential but most teams would likely rather keep the young top 4 potential dman then have a young potential top 6 winger. (The whole centers/d-man being worth more then wingers thing)

why would he need a change of scenery???

Because he's somehow buried on the Habs non-existent depth chart. Despite him being offensively gifted and a great skater they refuse to give him more than 10 min per game or simply healthy scratch him.

Scherbak vs one these guys (habs could add depending on the player)

-Brendan Guhle (Buff)
-Nicolas Beaudin or Jokiharju (Chi)
-Josh Mahura (Ana)
- Carrick (Toronto)

Buried based on what? He just made the nhl recently.

If Ozhiganov/Holl take Carrick's spot, I'd be good with Carrick from a Leafs Pov. Scherbak isn't a need for us but lottery tickets are nice, just want to make sure we're not making a hole

Habs would obviously need to add Probably something like Scherbak and a 2nd. But yeah I dont really see them trading either one of those guy. Team usually dont trade young players like that.

Why? Isn't Deslauriers on LTIR? That would put them at 14 forwards including 5 centers(counting Domi)

They have Chaput, DeLarose, Plekanec, Hudon. Deslauriers and Shaw will come back someday.

The key is Kotkaniemi. Are they gonna keep him or not ?

Scherbak is so bad defensively and doesn't bring enough offensively. He's kinda like Andrei Kostitsyn or Alex Galchenyuk, except his skill level is a step below them. He's waiver eligible, and can't make a case for himself in camp. He's simply not an NHLer.

Hudon is better (he has higher hockey IQ) and Lehkonen is miles ahead. De La Rose/Peca fill in more defensive roles, as well as Chaput if he stays. Scherbak would need to be in the top-9, but it's overcrowded right now, not to mention Kotkaniemi.

Scherbak is big, skilled, good skater, good shot but he has very low hockey sense, brings nothing defensively, is inconsistent/lazy and isn't physical/doesn't use his body in a smart way.

He's done.

If EDM is offering Caleb Jones for real I say do it.

Nobody is going to claim Chaput or De La AHLer, so send them down, and call them up after trading Plekanec, Byron, Gallagher and Armia. If De La Soul and Chapootie look even remotely like NHLers at the end of the year, trade them too.

The big part of rebuilding is asset management.

Julius Honka? :dunno:
I'd do this, with Weber out and some young Finns on the team, ya could be a solid fit.

Mete Petry
Alzner Juulsen
Ouellette Honka
Benn Schlemko

Move Benn/Schlemko or both when Weber comes back.

Montreal is not in the business of full-tank mode like Ottawa is doing. They just re-signed Byron and brought back Plekanec for one year. They are trying to win whether you like it or not. They might suck in 2018-19 but they are trying to get back up on their legs.

Chaput and De La Rose have no value, sure, same for Scherbak I agree with you. They are 4th liners/AHL players. But none of those guys are playing when the Habs are fully healthy.

Habs have collected a fair amount of quality youths in the last months (Suzuki + Kotkaniemi). They currently have an average roster, with a lot of young players. They will try to win this year as much as they can, and the only vets who could be traded are depth players (Benn, Schlemko, Shaw, Plekanec). It's possible we finish bottom-5 yes, because our roster is average right now.

But Bergevin is building the team right back up. The farm system is revamped (new coaches). Montreal will be a playoff contender pretty soon. They have a lot of players with good potential and are backstopped by Gallagher/Weber/Price who should be here for 5 to 8 years and won't stand for losing. They are quality players with experience that can show the way. Montreal has a lot of promise and should have a high pick in 2019 as well. After that they will be trending way up.
