It didn’t matter who the GM was. The team had their sights on Reinhardt since the 2012 draft and we’re going to get him at virtually any cost.

I don't think this is true. I think they liked him but Chia had full autonomy to get the deal done and say no to a bad deal. Chia decided to pull the trigger on a deal. He did not have too. I agree he was getting bad advice, but he was not forced to take it.
