With a bunch of time off I've delved deep into the depths of youtube and found myself all in sorts of nostalgic places. My favorite Fleetwood Mac song, when it came out I was too young to like it or really understand it, but its followed me throughout my life and has become at times painfully poignant.

And this one blows my mind. I was at this show. I was still underage, and left school to go with friends to see U2 on the Zoo TV tour...on St Patty's day....at the old Boston Garden....with the Boston's own Pixies opening up. We went early and snuck into a bar down the street, it was light when we went in, dark when we went out. I remember walking/swaying under a bridge on the way over to the show that had a 55 gallon drum on fire like out of an 80's movie, and a dozen or so half naked guys (it was freezing) painted head to toe in green dancing around it like freaks. WPLR had a contest offering free tickets to those who had showed the most irish pride...

I had the classic "obstructed" seats. A huge concrete column literally in my leg space with no view around it. So we walked around hiding in different sections all show. Bono came out tanked, and it showed for at least the beginning. There was a second stage in the middle they could walk to that was right in from of me. If you told me in 1992 that nearly 30 years later there would be this magic puffy cloud of happy music and video containing things back to my childhood and beyond floating around in the air above us that was connected to us all, and that you could push a button to pull into one of multiple small to large tv screens in your house to watch at your leisure on your couch....I wouldve taken away from you whatever you were smoking/drinking and made you sit down. You couldve told me Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory was a real place in Europe and that everything in the movie had actually happened, and I wouldve believed THAT more than the concept of youtube now.

So I found video from the show.

And yes I was a little annoyed at times looking at all the Bruins crap everywhere as I was four years away from losing the Whale and hated all things Bruin with fiery passion of a thousand suns.

Being a horrible person I googled "Bill has withered".

I found a thread with that title on a forum. Seventh post in the thread:

How do you turn a duck into a soul singer ?
Put it in a microwave until it's bill withers....

Bic Runga should have been world famous, and I'm still kinda mad that she isn't.

Holy hell, there's a good quality New Zealand singer songwriter I haven't seen mentioned in years, her sister Boh was pretty talented as well

I prefer the song Drive though, it's got a haunting quality

Lol, did you get an alert from the Kiwi News Network?

Actually, my favorite is Listening for the Weather. I had Beautiful Collision on repeat on and off for years; such a great album.

I came over to your board for the first time in months looking to see what you guys were saying about your pending UFA'S and stumbled on this tread and your post about Bic who I haven't listened to or heard mentioned in years, unbelievably lucky

I went back and listened to some of her music last night so thanks for that :thumbu:

Check out my last post!! :yo::yo: Though it depends on your metal preferences, I tend to go NWOBHM, Power, Speed, or Technical Thrash more than anything else...never got into the Black/Deathmetal scenes with the growly vocals or anything where you can't really distinguish a clean sound.

I am mostly listening to power/folk/trash. There are exceptions when I listen to growlier, but that is usually Scandinavian, so I don't understand the lyrics anyway - Svartsot (Norwegian), Finntroll (Swedish). Finntroll can be actually understood if they sing in English though.

Some "less popular" (as in not Metallica or Rammstein) band names to throw around - Korpiklaani, Sabaton, Finntroll, Hulkoff, Turmion Katillot, Turisas, Alestorm, Lordi... There is a lot of weird stuff including Mongolian metal.

I like the Katana song. I would have speed it up a bit, but that's just my personal preference.

This is probably my favorite song if I had to choose one, which is something I never do because I hate comparing how much I like stuff.

Nothing against bleed and his musical memories from Boston, but just like hockey, some of the best music is in the Triangle. Greg is a talented musician and a really great all-around guy. The Tremblers were a fun band to catch in a small locale years ago and Greg is still writing some of the best lyrics today.

I somehow only recently discovered Sabaton (their video for Bismark) but really enjoying their sound so far and got a couple albums. I've found I apparently really love German Power Metal...Helloween, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Grave Digger, Accept (not exactly power metal but ya know), Majesty (German Man-o-war), Iron Savior, StormWarrior, Savage Circus/Persuader (German/Swedish), Paradox, Running Wild, Unisonic, Primal Fear....etc

Katana is very much a NWOBHM sound, especially that song sounds much like Iron Maiden (their song Kublai Kahn is another excellent track). Check out their song Gambit for a bit faster paced song.

Just recently discovered Sabaton? Alright, time to make a list for you. It's the end of the WW2 anniversary after all.

    Ghost Division
    Price of a Mile
    Firestorm
    Talvisota
    Firestorm
    Swedish Pagans
    1648
    Lion from North
    Carolus Rex
    We Burn
    Ruina Imperii (Swedish version)
    Cliffs of Gallipoli
    Final Solution
    Resist and Bite
    Screaming Eagles
    Aces in Exile
    Far from Fame

    Night Witches
    Attack of the Dead Men
    Into the Fire
    Rorke's Drift
    Smoking Snakes
    Lost Battalion
    Last Stand
    Winged Hussars
    Red Baron

Bolded have something to do with Czech history, so there is a bias.

Germans do good stuff, although I am more into Scandinavian stuff myself.

    Gambit was put into queue.

I got Heroes and The Great War not long ago, so I've definitely heard a handful of those songs, and watched one of their live performances on YouTube. Looks like I've got some work to do to start listening to those songs (great thing about working from home, I can BLAST metal while I work!!)

Another of my favorite bands who's sort of a mix of power-speed/thrash-heavy metal...Iced Earth! (after the intro the song comes in heavy as ****)
