Some people on here panic after going down 1-0.

"Would you say it's time for our viewers to crack open each others' heads and feast on the goo inside?"
    "Yes, I would, Kent."

Yes it is too early to panic but it is not too early to start worrying. Maurice after all has the experience of coaching a team to the Stanley Cup and then finishing dead last. Championship caliber teams should not blow 3 goal leads in the third period at home to 1 player.

Ehlers is in a horrific slump dating back almost half a season. Wheeler and Scheifele both forgot how to hockey over the summer. The D looks like a bunch of AHlers.

Much short-term room for improvement. Also room for variance to even out. Practices should be focused, concentration should be high, and things will be back in shape before you know it. There's too much talent.

Jets need to change up their D ( take Chiarot out), and break up CSW. That would be a good start.

Yeah, like ****ing coach Maurice. I'm amazed how little an NHL can get away with doing

    Second those.

CSW has not been even a close to a decent 1st line, let alone "one of the best NHL forward lines" as it's touted by many. Besides, breaking CSW should get 2nd line going as well as matching lines are much more than their sum.

There is a lot of sad crap going on here. One of those saddest things is that Nik Ehlers who is forced to play historically dysfunctional line and has a TOI of 13:46 (248th most for all NHL forwards) while having one of his unfortunate scoring slumps going on, is being the usual suspect for things Maurice is responsible for. And Laine of course is crucified as well, but that's nothing new so not need to mention even, just to look relevant threads with shaking your head.

If people seriously want to ***** over some other than Maurice that should get all the criticism really, what about captain Blake Wheeler:

    6. 1+3=4, -5. 11 minutes of unnecessary undiscliplined penalties. Three assists on PP, which is OK.

TOI: 20:00, which is second highest for the Jets, 29th for all NHL forwards.

As long as our team goaltending hangs in above .915 this is a playoff team. All be it a playoff team that makes me furious from time to time.

To blow a 4-1 lead is a little ridiculous.

What the ****, -5 already? It does seem like CSW are not able to outscore their defensive suckage, they were -1 against the Oilers as well. We can't roll like this if this is what our only scoring line looks like.

That said, matching CSW with the McDavid line was a stupid move to begin with. Why even have shutdown lines if we don't use them (for scoring obviously says Lowry but it's the Oilers so...).

    CSW is +1 -3 = -2, but Wheeler is +1 -6 = -5.

    I guess Scheifele has +3 -5 = -2.

    (5-on-5 stats)

Ah, okay, I guess that's a little bit better. Small sample of course too.

Not exactly awe-inspiring in any case.

At this time, after 6 games played:

    2016: 2-4-0 ( 4pts )
    2017: 3-3-0 ( 6 pts )
    2018: 3-2-1 ( 7 pts )

    I'm trying...to not panic.

But, at this exact moment in the schedule last season we went 9-1-3 in our next 13 games. That defined our season. Based on the play I have seen so far, even though we have 1 more point than last year... there is NO freaking way this team is only going to lose 1 game in the next 13.

The record is not that much of a concern, at this stage. The way we are playing, overall......is.

They also started with 2 devastating losses last season AFAIK, so their record for games 3.-19. had to be 12-2-3, pretty respectable indeed.

Goaltending has been actually better than last season for first 6 games, but overall game hasn't.

Time to rebalance the lines and spread ice time.

we also need Buff back and to bring up Niku to move the puck.

Laine looked absolutely horrible last night, though. He got stripped nearly every time he touched the puck. Seems like he's not feeling it in his hands just yet.

I think the line that they're on is doing them absolutely no favours though. I still think that if Laine and Ehlers were given more TOI and a shake up in lines, they would be better positioned to work on their (sometimes glaring) weaknesses.

I didn't quite understand this either. This is one game where Lowry and McDavid should cancel each other out, and let our unbelievably talented roster take care of the rest.

It isn't time to panic. Yet.

But go another 6-8 games like this? Time to start looking behind the bench...

I read this pretty much every post game thread. Why is Laine the only one ever called out for giving up the puck? Wheeler and sometimes Schief are just as bad, and if I looked at the stats, I would be willing to bet they are worse. Laine had some awesome plays last night, boardwork as good as anyone's at times, incredible rush from end to end with a scoring chance et.

He wasn't horrible, especially relative to everyone else in the top six. This is why I would LOVE to see Wheeler and Laine switch lines, and see how each of them contributes on their new lines.

Well what is your theory? You've seen my posts, you know I love Laine and think he should be on the top line. I don't think I qualify as a hater.

IMO he just had a really bad game.

I would venture that Wheeler probably has a lot of giveaways because he pushes play a lot and carries the puck into the zone a lot. He also gets tons of TOI.

I don't think Wheeler has been all that great, but he never looks *useless*. Laine looked absolutely useless to me last night, coughing up

Time to send a message to a couple of bottom dwellers to help the confidence of this team. Vancouver and Arizona must not just be wins, but be lopsided wins.
